If you think Fromm was a better option than Fields I honestly don’t know how to have a conversation about quarterback play with you...
He was the better option at the time. I'm sorry you don't understand basics of college football.

Hindsight is 20/20 but in that moment I don’t know how a coach can justify benching a QB that just led his team to the national championship game and threw for 2600 yards/24 TDs as a true frosh for a guy just on his potential.

Also you would think this would be used as ammo for negative recruiting. Basically would imply there is no job security at QB1.
This. Hindsight bias is strong with this board.

Saban and Sweeney has no problem doing it. 2018 LSU was the moment. Blew it.

And knowing a coach will pull a Sweeney means a good recruit will commit no matter who the starte is because if they can play they will.

I know who the better player is and was. You do too if you’re honest with yourself.

If you don’t believe in playing the best player then you won’t win championships.

In case your memory is short, Fromm played his best football after the LSU game. There was no reason to justify sitting Fromm during that stretch even if you could say that Fields should have played against LSU.

That's very bad. He's the player we can least afford to lose on the whole roster.

"Best player" is what is in question here. Fields might be much better than Fromm today but that doesn't mean he was better in 2018. And by "better", I don't just mean raw talent. Fromm was a field general who knew the plays and got the offense in the right position to be successful. He was also coming off of a freshman season where he helped lead the team to their first natty appearance in decades. You don't bench Fromm for an unproven Fields in that situation without good reason and outside of the LSU game, Fromm didn't give a good enough reason to do it.

And where is there any job security when you’re underperforming???? That may be biggest disservice a coach could lend a kid. That is some “everybody gets a trophy” thinking. Everybody don’t. A competitor knows this and is more likely to be a winner because of it

Here we go...typical UGA season. Lose key player after key player in against a bum team before playing an important game. Some things will never change.

Stop with your bullshite revisionist history.

Again, if you ain’t a coach the caliber of Saban or Sweeney you don’t do it. If you are you do

At least we have built up some depth. Sucks that key players seem to keep going down at inopportune times though.

Goes to show that you need more than a single player to win it all. You have to have everything fall into place. We can't seem to get everything to fall for us.

. Had he been at Bama or Clemson he wouldn’t have finished the season as the starter. His having finished the season after LSU is the issue
