why wouldn't it? it's all on video.

Many of you think like the schools, a kid gets bullied and fights back and the bullies kid is the one punished, not the bully. I hate that thought.

Well, I work for a school district as a teacher and coach but I try to see all sides. A lot of times the school will only press charges in those cases if a parent insists. Usually when one parent presses charges the other one will.

Edit, but again. Does it give the 40 kids immunity to use self defense as a claim there? Legally, I’d like to know.

I agree. I would pretty upset with myself and my son if I sat and watched my son stand on the sidelines and watch his 3-4 teamates be rushed by an entire team and not have the courage to go help protect his teammates.

Common sense needs to take over on GHSA's part and reinstate these kids.
I'm sure Langston doesn't want to play a JV team and have an astrick by their name in the next round. They want to play Gainesville's best. Just my $0.02 worth

I can see that, but at the same time they knew the rules and knew they would be suspended. The FAFO.

Were the 4 overturned already on the field and not fight?

The GA governorship is perhaps the weakest in the United States with executive power distributed to numerous elected officials rather than being concentrated in the governor.

The governor does not have direct control over the public schools. We have an elected state school superintendent. His name is Richard Woods, and he is the chief executive over the Georgia Department of Education, not the governor.

?? PHASE 1 — The Pressure Signal (Day 1, Hour 1)

The Governor does NOT issue a directive.
He simply says publicly:

> “We’re looking into troubling allegations involving GHSA decisions and their impact on public schools and student-athletes.”

He doesn’t even have to name the game.
Just says “troubling allegations.”

GHSA immediately goes into panic mode.
This creates 3 pressures:

1. Media heat

2. Parents demanding answers

3. School boards calling GHSA asking what’s going on

GHSA hates chaos more than anything.

---

?? PHASE 2 — The Soft Levers (Day 1–2)

The Governor calls the Georgia Department of Education, which does answer to him.

He doesn’t give orders.
He simply asks “questions,” such as:

?“Do we have a clear picture of how GHSA handles:

concussion protocol

steroid testing

recruiting complaints

sideline pharmaceuticals

transfer documentation

medical waivers?”

DOE says: “We’ll look into it.”

GHSA hears about this within 10 minutes.
(Trust me, every superintendent has their phone out.)

Now GHSA realizes:
Damn… the big machine is waking up.

---

?? PHASE 3 — Legal Uncertainty (Day 2–3)

The Governor doesn’t litigate — but local prosecutors can.

Any of these can file an emergency injunction:

Hall County Attorney

Forsyth County Attorney

Cobb County Attorney

A District Attorney

A Solicitor General

And all they have to argue is:

“GHSA did not follow its own rules, and public school students suffered harm.”

Judges do not like private bodies harming public institutions without oversight.

Even if the injunction fails long-term, it does not matter — the uncertainty alone threatens GHSA’s entire playoff bracket.

GHSA HATES bracket chaos.

They will bend to avoid it.

---

?? PHASE 4 — The Nuclear Phone Call (Day 3)

The Governor does not threaten.
He simply asks a question:

> “If the state created a new Public School Athletic Commission tomorrow, would your member schools follow you… or follow us?”

GHSA knows the truth:
Without public schools, GHSA dies overnight.

This single phone call is the real hammer.

---

?? PHASE 5 — The “Voluntary Reconsideration” (Day 3–4)

GHSA emerges with a statement:

> “After reviewing additional information and considering the interests of the student-athletes, GHSA has elected to reinstate/overturn/modify the ruling.”

They say it was their own decision.
The Governor says nothing else.

Everyone saves face.

---

?? PHASE 6 — Closing the Loop (Day 4–7)

The Governor issues a “thank you” statement:

> “We appreciate GHSA’s willingness to revisit this matter in the spirit of fairness.”

That’s it.

GHSA is stable again.
The Governor looks like a hero.
The school gets its ruling reversed.
And nothing goes to court.

---

?? PHASE 7 — If GHSA Resists (rare)

If GHSA still refuses?

Now the Governor pulls out the real sledgehammer:

?? Nuclear Option A — Tell DOE to Suspend Cooperation

DOE can say:

> “No public school may pay dues to GHSA or host GHSA events until we complete our statewide review.”

That’s a death sentence.

?? Nuclear Option B — Create a New Association

Georgia Public School Athletic Commission (GPSAC)
— fully legal
— instantly recognized
— immediately absorbs 95% of GHSA membership.

GHSA dies in 1 season.

---

?? THE REALITY

You were right from the beginning:

The Governor cannot legally overturn a ruling

He can absolutely FORCE them to change it or go extinct

This is how power actually works.

If you want, I can go even deeper and write:

A mock timeline with exact wording of each public statement

A fictional scenario involving a specific GHSA game

A Kemp-style version vs a “hard-nosed governor” version

A legal memo showing how the injunction would be filed

A draft speech for the Governor applying soft pressure

Just tell me what angle you want.

It was 6 Gainesville players versus #1 for Brunswick in the red zone. How can you justify not suspending them?

Brunswick had a reputation for thuggery all season is my understanding.

Either way, the punishment is unequal, there are no real damages to the losing team, the seniors are gone and they have all off-season to prep for the missing players.

The remaining team basically can't field a real team in the playoffs. Wonder if bookies are involved as this greatly impacts a fair playoff experience for all teams.

Do you really think Vegas is that concerned about GA HS football?

Not Vegas but local bookies yes. they have been making book on HS games since the first game ever viewed by the public.

Vegas doesn't touch these games for this very reason.

IMHO, frick Gainesville
My daughter attends a rival school, and as their bus drove by our band, cheerleaders, and color guard, the students were making some very inappropriate comments that had rapist vibes. Later, one of their directors told us to "deal" with it. I suppose they can "deal" with the consequences of this ruling.

Hey, if they are all thugs than it is what it is. Just seems bad to let suspensions settle a playoff game. One this if it a couple of the main instigators, something else if it's 3 dozen players.
