We are lucky to have him.

But there are a few things that he must improve upon this offseason.

He gets sacked 1 time per game on a blitz that he never sees. Maybe a tight end missed a blocking assignment. But there is some self awareness that would go a long way to keeping him from getting beat up out there.

Secondly, we need a better plan than the current back shoulder throws. Murray/Bobo made that an option route (go route if the DB is beat; back shoulder if he is step for step). And it worked more often than our current playcall. I can only remember 1 time where the QB/WR were not on the same page. And that may have been Eason/Godwin last season.

I know that Fromm will get the WRs back out for reps soon. Never waste an opportunity after a loss to improve.

He's a true freshman. He will improve. He played well beyond what you'd expect from a true freshman.

I will admit that - early in the season - I wholeheartedly believed that we just couldn't win the SEC with a true freshman under center. He proved me wrong time and time again.

I'm shocked a true Freshman made some mistakes this year and has things on which to improve. This is a scolding hot take.

They don't call it the blind side for the hell of it.

After 2016, I was expecting to bitch about the offensive linemen, tight ends, or tailback missing assignments.

It is understandable for a true freshman. But a lot of his sacks are his own fault. 5 guys can't block 6 when the 6th is coming wide from his blindside. I think I remember OU blitzing right in front of his face and he was caught off guard and ate it (for as hard as he is hit on these blitzes, he does well holding onto the ball).

Last night was his 15 game. He's already beyond being a freshman.

He does have room for improvement. At least we're not clamoring to chime in that he needs to work on his fundamentals like many of us were doing last season.

He'd do well to work closely with our receivers in the off-season to perfect timing routes. Fromm even said that his slants were some of his worst throws this season. He'll need every tool at his disposal next year.

There are lots of plays where you can tell he locks on to a primary receiver and throws it no matter what (usually Wims). If he can get more comfortable going through a progression and hitting secondary routes, our passing game will become much more dynamic.

Can't really ask for a better season as a true freshman though.

His throw to Mecole down the sideline was his best long ball of the year IMO. I don't know how far he threw it but I agree that he needs to lead receivers rather than always going for the back shoulder throw. If he'd have done this on the first pass of the game we'd have gotten a TD.

I don't know if the backshoulder is Fromm's preference. Or if it is the playcall from Chaney.

Like I said... it was an option route with Murray where we would go either way based upon coverage.
I hate seeing our WR beat his man, and then have to fight back through the same defender to win a jump ball.

Agreed. He's had a lot of success with it but when we have the DB beat he needs to read it and go long. Good offseason work.

Beyond that, given the nature of this season, there's very few scenarios he hasn't seen. He's played from behind vs. the most prolific offense in the league on one of the biggest stages in college football and faced the toughest defense he will likely ever see in the biggest game you can play. That experience should go a long way next year against lesser opponents.

I think it's especially huge considering week 2 @ USCe could be our most important game of the season. Don't see Fromm being rattled by Williams-Brice.

I think Fromm (as a true freshman) has been wary about the deep throw, so the shorter passes and the back shoulder are more comfortable for him. As the season progressed he threw more deep balls than he did early. JMO

I just listened to the punt and pass podcast. Murray says that fromm learned a lesson from the game.

Aaron says that the backshoulder is a security blanket on a couple of routes, and that it is easy for a QB to fall in love with it. But then you realize that 5 yards out front is a possible TD. And sometimes you just have to let it rip.
