I don't see it happening. It's just too far up 400. The 400 interchange may help things but traffic up there is terrible. I think the AAA Braves would have worked. I think the Gwinnett Stripers has largely been a failure.

The Stripers were in a very convenient spot by Mall of Georgia right off the interstate, huge population base, with dedicated entertainment development all around it. I don't see how transplanting the Stripers to Alpharetta would have been any different of a situation. I think the Stripers were a failure because people don't care about AAA ball around here.

So the developers are going to spend a Billion dollars with the hopes of attracting the inner city Marta rider?

You are completely missing the point.

The bulk of the fanbase for a potential NHL team lives in the northern reaches of Atlanta. (Forsyth, Cherokee, N.Fulton, Western Gwinnett/Suwannee & Duluth, and the Smokies foothills in Lumpkin and Dawson. IOW, the new development is centrally located to where the bulk of the fanbase and STH's live.

It's not hard.

IDK, the comparison to the Braves moving to Cobb is kind of a stretch for me.

That location is much closer to downtown and already had the luxury of having an established fan base. Setting up a hockey team in suburban BFE and having to build up interest for it might be a hard sell for a lot of folks.

More than this, the new Braves stadium is much closer and faster from downtown Atlanta than from NW Cobb. In fact, I bet your average Atlantic Station Yuppie can get to Suntrust faster than getting to Turner Field on any given afternoon. And if not, it's close.

I mean the proposal there would be to extend MARTA, having it end right at the arena would help massively and while we’re at it extend it to Cobb too. Of course this won’t happen because lots of people in the suburbs believe that this will magically turn their areas into the ghetto

Whites in Gwinnett actually want Marta *rail* expansion to Lawrenceville and beyond. They voted down the referendum for it a couple years ago because the billion dollar price tag (to be paid by Gwinnett County taxpayers) only extended *rail* a few miles into Norcross, but was going to tear up I-85 for Bus Lanes all the way to Suwanee.

The average Atlantic Station yuppie was against the Braves moving so they probably haven't even gone to Truist.

Your average Atlantic Station Yuppie isn’t going to Braves games and wouldn’t go to Thrashers games if they were in State Farm Arena.

It’s not the target demo. The northern suburbanite is.

Gwinnett traffic is hell. Absolute hell.

We went to a gladiators game this year. 40 minutes to travel the last 1 mile to get into the lot and to park.

Southside Atlanta was never that bad.

Exactly.

Minor league hockey with an inability to move people into the parking lot and off the road for a 7pm puck drop.

Gwinnett is a shitstorm.

But the northern suburbanite is more interested in their kids' travel ball games and cheer competitions, and in some cases, karate, so they aren't going to fill up a triple A baseball game on a Tuesday either.

Triple A teams have good audiences when they are in the middle of nowhwere, with nothing else to do.

But Forsyth could be a hockey Mecca?

We will see.

Forsyth is tucked between Gwinnett, Fulton, and Cherokee Counties. The potential is there.

It would be considered "inconvenient" for Dekalb and Cobb counties.
But downtown is inconvenient to Dekalb and Cobb counties.

Yes.

Have to remember that most of the fans coming to the new arena will be coming against traffic. Not unlike Truist.

No, I think you’re not understanding. First, hell no we don’t want or need Marta. In Forsyth county. Second of all I’m 100% in favor of the development as I think it will be a huge success, as opposed to that idiot dawgfan8675309.

I'm out in East Cobb and it's perfect for me. Anyone west or central on 75 does not have it easy though. Like you said, still better than heading downtown at rush hour.
