We kinda did Richard Samuel dirty.

nah he shortchanged himself if anythign. It should have been clear to anyone that he was much more suited to be a LB and he could've been a great one. But he INSISTED that he was a RB. He was a 5* (he may have actually been classified as an athlete during recdruiting, I can't remember) and everyone was after him so obviously we wanted to do whatever it took to get him here. And unlike some other programs that may have promised him something and would renege the minute he signed we kept our word so we played him at RB, which he kinda stunk at. I think we moved him to LB only due to a major rash of injuries at the position but eventually then moved him back to RB.

My understanding is Richt really liked him and wanted to get him in a spot where he could play. None worked out.

I honestly don't know how he was a five-star He had no lateral movement He ran north and south that was what he was good at. And if you grab the shoelace he would fall down almost on every tackle.

The guy who screwed himself is Jermaine Burton. He was better than Lad, and he would have been a pretty high profile guy last season - pretty much a lock to have been drafted this year.

Now he's going to be catching knuckleballs at Bama and trying to sign as a free agent next year.

Not wishing anything bad on him in any way. Grass ain't always greener, though.

I don't think that Burton was better than Ladd. Ladd just has the knack of getting open. Burton couldn't get separation at Bama. Brice Young throwing to Ladd would have been a bigger threat.

Burton got separation against Bama as a true freshman. He was better off the line than Ladd.

Burton just doesn't seem to have improved.
Maybe he maxed out his talents as a freshman. I don't know.

He looked to be heavier to me last year at Bama. Whether that was by design, or even true, that could have slowed him up a step.
