I figured I'd start a thread for all information/practices. I can't believe it's here already. Anyone close have any insight on the starting 22? I know there are more questions on D than O.

I'm not sure I have any insights.
The big questions for me are how we navigate safety/nickel. Is Dan Jackson a full time safety? Do we slide down/out a safety to star and put Jackson up high in nickel like last season?
Who gets RG? Willock, Ratledge, or Ericson?
I think the rest of the questions are about backups or dual responsibilities (how often is McConkey at Y vs Z? Same for Blaylock)

If we don’t transition McConkey to full time slot we’re doing him and us a disservice. Does Gilbert stay at TE or try to slim down to play receiver like last year?
O line I’m assuming L to R is Jones, unknown, van pran, unknown, McClendon. So both guard spots are up for grabs. If he’s healthy I assume one is Ratledge.
Interested to see how we use Tykee Smith since we have no proven commodity outside of Chris Smith. Also, can William Poole continue his hot streak defending the slot?
ILB is really interesting. Had a lot of guys sit the spring with injuries, so interested to see who emerges as the starters there. We all assume Pop is one. I guess the betting favorite is Mondon as the other.

Gilbert is going to play in line and flex as a TE, similar to how we have used Bowers but with a different skill set.
OL is very likely to be Jones-Truss-SVP-Ratledge-McClendon

That insinuates that he cannot have success on the outside. The slot also will have to make room for Arian Smith and the tight ends when we go heavy. McConkey needs to be able to do both. The question is percentages at each.

Truss has the most playing experience at LG. He will probably be the early favorite to start. But he will also be pushed each week to hold onto it (Ratledge/Willock probably have the highest upsides and should be there from a skill and consistency level mid season if healthy. If Truss struggles at all, he will probably see an opportunity for someone else to step in. Who knows... Mims could even make a move).

Dan Jackson and Kelee Ringo are proven commodities. I get what you are saying though.

I think Trezman Marshall has the other spot right now. He had a great spring. Got his hands on 2 balls during the spring game (needs to hold onto them though). He and Pop are probably the two best at havoc plays.
Opportunities are available for blitzing linebackers, though. Someone who can walk up on the line and hold the edge like an OLB or show some bend/get skinny to help our stunt game.

It's gotta be Ratledge if he's healthy I would think.

Wouldn't Smith play the nickel if he's healthy?

I think everyone is in agreement. But the "if healthy" seems to be concern. Kind of like an ACL, it sounds like full recovery/strength isn't as easy as 12 months later.

Based mostly on brooks Austin's eval last preseason, I am hoping tykee is at nickel.
But the question can be asked who the best 5 DBs are and if Dan Jackson is still a part of that (i.e. Poole at star, Tykee at S. Dan Jackson comes in Dime package and pushes tykee to star and Poole to money).

My eyes popped some when I saw you didn't list Milton as the starting RB. Why McIntosh over Milton?
Posted on 8/3/22 at 12:24 pm to AllDawgCK
If Bennett gets the start over Gunner Stockton then we might as well just forfeit the season. Kirby can't manage QB's.
Posted on 8/3/22 at 12:43 pm to AllDawgCK
He’s done more in game situations. I think they’ll be 1a and 1b but if I had to pick one it’s McIntosh based on what they’ve done so far.

I think Milton is going to really turn heads this year when he blows up but I don't think it's crazy to have him 2nd to start the fall. McIntosh is no slouch in his own right and has bene perfectly solid every chance he gets, to go along with milton being injured most of his career here. Kendall probably has the higher ceiling but based on what they've done to date you gotta give kenny the nod IMO.

I wonder how Branson will do. He seems almost to big to be a RB. But what do I know.
Posted on 8/3/22 at 3:39 pm to AllDawgCK
Based on his speed in the 100 he won't be breaking away from DBs on the regular, but his size is almost equivalent to Chubb's when he came to UGA.

I too would like to see Mims earn a starting guard spot while he waits to play tackle next year, but only if he earns it. If Willock or Truss or even Ericsson are better, then they should play.
I also really hope Tate is back close to himself because apparently he was viewed as even being a better player than Salyer last camp and that’s saying a lot.

Unironically think Vandagriff is another Eason, and SBIV has chosen Stockton as his protégé.
