I can't even tell, but then again I'm no expert when it comes to defense.

You played 22 games of D1 football and you can't tell what is going on defensively? That is sad. I mean if what you say is true and you played in the mid to late 80's you probably saw mostly 50 front or Wide Tackle Six fronts as those were popular defenses of day. Correct?

We run a hodge podge of everything, that's what makes Grantham so good is he always keeping OC's guessing as to what he is going to do. We are in Nickel/Dime just as much as our base.

No need to guess. Just pass it.

This. Honestly Grantham's defense reminds me a lot of the bad Willie Martinez lack of defense era with defenders giving a 10 yard cushion to receivers. The MO is the same: QB & receivers play pitch and catch for a time and then when the corners come up to stop the short stuff they blow by them for big plays. But to be completely honest, we seem to have a significant talent gap and lack of depth in our Secondary which also reminds me of the Martinez days. I guess you can sum it up relative to our defense: things haven't changed much during Richt's tenure; for the most part offense has been our strength and defense has been our weakness.

Wont be able to do this when Swann recovers from his high ankle sprain, and the youngins start to click.

By the time the youngsters start to click, they will be very scary to whoever we play in the peach bowl.

In the meantime, we give up a lot of yards through the air and have 1 interception through 6 games. Not very scary. Pass it.

"Oh, lawdy, Mars Grantham, please don't put in none of yore defenses with more of yore shitty DB's! That just ain't properly sportin'!"

Typical overreaction by a crazy sect.

Yes whenever you lose your starters to the NFL it will pick up just how it was. Again, this is real life football, not video games.

It's not like we were particularly good with last year's starters. I mean, their and Grantham's inability to stop Bama (even when they knew what was coming) cost us a likely national championship.

Who gives a shite about Bama's OL? It's Grantham's job to beat them. We had the best defensive personnel in the country last year and were mediocre as a unit.

Last year really sealed the deal for me. We had so much talent and such a mediocre defense. I know we struggled with depth, but we relied heavily on our stars (Jarvis) making key plays at pivotal moments in order to give our offense the ability to win games. We certainly weren't dominant by any stretch of the imagination.

This year, there was so much promise. I expected a sluggish start with the youth, but I expected the talent to be on full display. We only have one interception halfway through the season, and it's not like we've been playing GA Tech or other stupid option teams every week. We've been up against pass-heavy offenses with QBs who like to throw the ball.

Yep...run defense was terrible when it counted last season...even with two jumbo-sized nose guards.

This year it's pass defense.

We're signing plenty of highly touted players...haven't seen Grantham producing top twenty defenses, though.

I'll say it again: while I'm not pleased with the lack of overall production on defense, I would expect this from some young DC who was trying to make a name for himself or coming in with low expectations and a bottom-tier salary. But, CTG was highly touted and a big "get" for UGA at the time, and he makes megabucks. What is on the field is not representative of the DC he is supposed to be. If we can expect a bad defense or even just a ho-hum defense, we should be paying someone a lot less for it.

Your point? Were all the defensive guys we put in the NFL slouches? They rushed 350yds. 500 total. You saying we were that out of our league talent wise?

How do you account all of those NFL starters giving up 44 to UT?
