I think we definitely do if we win it all. SEC only would be a tough call, but I'd say probably not. Wouldn't be mad if we did though.

Don't think just winning the SEC would do it. David Greene would need to have his number retired before Murray in my opinion.

I think he actually has to beat a top 10 team first

What do you call #2 Florida last year?

Pollack needs 47 retired first. If Murray wins us a natty this year then I would be ok with it.

We won because the defense took the ball away six times. The offense tried to lose the game in giving up 3 turnovers. Our offense had 14 first downs, 150 yards passing and a total of 273 yards.

Just an honest question guy. Please spare all of us your two page worth rebuttal on how wrong I am.

If he wins the Natty and Heisman, then he would have to be considered in the top 5 best Dawgs ever. I say if he breaks virtually every passing record at the school and the SEC, you would have to consider retiring his number eventually. That's the only way, though.

I think Murrays a great kid and I doubt anyone ever has put in as much effort but an SECC isn't close to a jersey retirement.

Heck no. I would vote no unless he won the Heisman, broke some national records, and brought home a crystal football. He'd have to pull some special mojo out to rate having his number hung up.

Win the Heisman, get your jersey retired. That's how it works at UGA. Do you see anybody wearing a 34 or a 21 jersey? Guess why.

No need for 2 pages, it's just completely and totally asinine to even consider retiring #11 ONLY for winning the SEC.

If we do that why not retire #3? Oh, but he broke a bunch of records! So did Eric Zeier. Oh, but he broke a bunch of records AND won the SEC!! So did David Greene.

Retiring a number is reserved for the absolutely elite, the pinnacle of UGA football players (sapp notwithstanding, but at least we kinda understand why it happened). You can easily argue that walker, sinkwich, and trippi are the 3 greatest to ever play for UGA. So to put Murray up for something as simple as winning the conference is just so mind numbingly insulting to the honor.

Now, if he wins a national title..then yes. I'd say we should, because that is a rare honor worthy of such distinction.

Well, I guess I'm wrong. Theron Sapp #40 and Charlie Trippi #62 didn't win the Heisman and their jerseys are retired. Kind of weak if you ask me. Trippi I can see, but I don't know about Sapp. I did read an article from 2003 where Dooley said they won't retire anymore. That's why they created the Ring of Honor. Herschel and Sinkwich both won titles and Heismans. I think that should be the criteria.

I'd say "maybe" if he wins the Heisman. I'd say "yes" if he wins a MNC. I'd say "hell yes" if he wins both and crushes all relevant passing records to boot.

I think he was implying that he won a conference title AND would own every relevant passing record in the conference.

While I agree that we shouldn't, I don't think we should be so dismissive either.
