First of all there is a difference in flunking out and not being academically eligible. Anyone using the term flunked out should be ignore. You cannot flunk out in one semester. You go on academic probation for at least a semester before you flunk out. I know because I was on academic probation a couple different times in my early college years because all I wanted to do was party. Also, to flunk out he would not have been eligible for the Sugar Bowl because he would have had to had terrible grades last semester as well.
TL,DR: there's a zero percent chance he flunked out.

There are technically different baselines for NCAA Athletes and even more for UGA Athletes. You can certainly fall below the GPA threshold as well as miss too many classes. With that said, the rumors appear to be contrived, but who knows ?

IIRC, senior John Jenkins was academically ineligible for his last game in Athens (the bowl game after the 2012 SECCG). It isn't unheard of.

Especially in Athens. Keith Henderson sat out the entire 1987 season because he was academically ineligible and then came back and playing in 1988.

Well, when your going to the NFL and would have another 1.5 years in school to get a degree, you just don’t go to classes your senior year, fall semester once you know your not in the playoff/championship game
