Jalen Carter overcame not-great feedback from Georgia coaches to stay in top 10. PFT...
This literally just dropped:
quote:
College coaches who are asked about their former players often face a dilemma. Say nice things about the player who gave multiple years of unpaid service to the program, but who was may not have been an ideal soldier? Or tell the truth?
On one hand, the coaches feel compelled to show loyalty to their players. On the other hand, the coaches have to think about their credibility with NFL coaches and scouts.
When it comes to defensive tackle Jalen Carter, the word making the rounds before the draft was that the Georgia coaches did not have nice things to say. (We specifically decided not to mention any of that until after he was picked, so as not to participate in the pre-draft effort to get guys to fall.)
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media hinted at that last night after Carter became the ninth overall pick in the draft. We’ve heard it more bluntly and strongly. Members of the Georgia coaching staff are not Jalen Carter fans, and they weren’t bashful about saying so.
It’s one of various reasons why Carter — arguably the best player in the draft — slipped to No. 9. But he still landed in the top 10, and he ended up with one of the best teams in the NFL. Now, it’s up to him to write a better chapter in the next phase of his NFL career

You guys hating on that falcons pick will be eating major crow. Robinson fits what Arthur smith wants to do to a T and he can catch the ball think CP on steroids. They will grind clock all season. If they get Darnell Washington in the second watch out. 6th blocker they will make the playoffs

Well he's in a good spot with jordan, nakobe and nolan. Eagles defense will be nasty.

has arthur considered possibly stopping the opponent once in a while?

You have to outscore teams in the modern day NFL to win. Look no further than the Super Bowl. Philly had an all-world defense and the most sacks for one season all-time but they went up against the juggernaut of Mahomes and Kelce and gave up 38 points.
Yes defense is important but offense wins championships nowadays.

And AllDawg is right. Robinson is Smith's Derrick Henry part II. His offense is based around a power back

Especially when you went offense with your last two first round picks.

wait...so you're saying the team with the best defense made the super bowl? Hmmmmm

the falcons are not anywhere remotely in the vicinity of competing for a super bowl. They need to start by simply upgrading their glaring weakness, which they yet again fail to do.
The falcons are basically most of the Richt era. Great skll players and a team built to flash but weak along the LOS with critical issues at vital positions. It doesn't matter if you havea great RB/WR/TE if everywhere else stinks.

Right now they don’t have 5 blockers. There is no starting LG on the team.

Not only did they not address their decade long glaring weaknesses, they somehow managed to use the 8 pick on the one position that isn't a glaring weakness.
You could have prime Adrian Peterson, Travis Kelcey, Randy Moss and Megatron on this team and it wouldn't matter. With this O-line, entire D, and QB what good is all the skill??

Drafting for need gets you in trouble.
The best teams go BPA regardless of position.
And you guys do know that they addressed the entire defensive side of the ball in FA, right?

I don't think the O-line is as bad as you guys think it is. The only weak link is center, everywhere else is pretty solid.
Again, the Falcons addressed the entire defensive side of the ball in FA. Why is that being missed in this conversation?
Are you making a judgement on Ridder w/only 4 games evidence?

You had the best player on offense (Bijan)and the best player on defense (Carter). They took the BPA on offense
This coaching staff has drafted 3 offensive players in the first round (all 3 by consensus were deemed reaches in the draft. Not "value" picks)
Where do you see the Falcons ranking in the 2023 NFL season for scoring?

No- I'm saying that all-time greats at the positions they've drafted on this team wouldn't move the needle....QB included.
But I will play the odds and say Ridder isn't a elite NFL QB.

He is most definitely not. I feel very confident after watching him in four games that he is not a difference maker.

I watched about the first 15 picks before I turned off the TV.
Falcon drafting has never made any sense to me. I don't understand them at all.
The perplexing thing to me was Anthony Richardson going fourth. Are we talking about the same guy? The guy that played at Florida? I guess the Colt organization saw something we all missed.
I never understood how Levis was projected by some to be a first round pick and sure enough he wasn't.

I bet it was to push betting money to the top two in the draft

Richardson should help the colts running game get even better.
And they are looking to playaction deep off of it.
The question is... where would other teams have taken Richardson?
I haven't a clue. And that may be why they reached so poorly.

Yeah. AR15 being a filthy mud lizard notwithstanding, I don't get the fawning adoration for this guy.
Was our defense that stifling that #4 overall looked less than pedestrian in the face of the Dawgs' D?
