To be fair to Richt, he had like 1-2 situations per year and half the time it was weed related. I hate to say it but Kirby looks way worse than Richt right now

That would pretty well destroy our recruiting.

The current pattern will almost certainly hurt our recruiting. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Kids from good families are pushed elsewhere, and then you end up with an even higher percentage of shitheads in a desperate attempt to keep the talent level up. See: Florida circa 2010 or Miami in the late 80s and mid 2000s.

Kirby built his program with really great players who were staying out of trouble in the same town. Something has changed in the last couple years. Our transfers in have been particularly poor in their decisions (Thomas, Young, Etienne, etc)

I agree that’s definitely a contributing factor but I don’t see this much activity at other schools. It’s weird. Kirby is so intense. Control freak. Etc. but it’s like I guess he needs to make an example out of somebody to get a point across. Maybe risk booting a guy that knew the rules and broke them even if it’s not a super crazy rule? Idk man. Frustrating.

So, why does she tell the police she is scared of him yet goes to his apartment alone?

There’s enough smoke at this point to indicate we have a culture fire.

If nothing else, our transfer vetting process needs serious work.

I mean Kirby allegedly took Smoke Bouie, a known problem who was unlikely to play early, as a favor to folks in Bainbridge. That is absurd, if true. He had to kick him out before even making it to fall. It was pointless risk.

Young is now the 4th scholarship transfer in the past two classes with major legal issues.

Did he have issues before?

I don’t know, but clearly we are doing a bad job at finding indicators of future issues.

Smoke Bouie had prior issues, and UGA overlooked those, so I’m not sure why it’s so hard to believe that Smart may have a blind spot on some of this stuff.

Not really, if there are no legal issues then what is there to go on? Can't be doing Top Secret security-level clearance type interviews where they go to neighbors and all...

Again, they have all been pushed ahead and covered up for their entire lives. No one is going to be like, kids got problems but he will be a good fit at UGA.

Colbie Young was a JUCO transfer to Miami who was moving on to his third school. JUCO is something of an indicator in itself, and cause for more thorough discussions with friends, former coaches, teachers, etc. to figure out who you are getting. We’re talking about someone who allegedly is violent toward unborn children. Normal people don’t do that.

Rara Thomas was known to have a complicated home life. That itself isn’t an issue, but it certainly warrants more homework.

Bouie should have never been a consideration for obvious reasons.

Etienne is a bit different as a non-violent offender that could be chalked up to kids doing dumb shite, but the three others need to be evaluated more closely. Violent criminals usually have all kinds of observable behaviors and traits.

Not this season, but we could probably add Arik Gilbert to that list as well.

For sure. UGA also took Derion Kendrick after being dismissed from Clemson. That one worked out, but clearly UGA is taking some risks with portal players that I would argue they shouldn’t have to take.

Kirby needs to take the boys up to a hurricane ravaged city in the Mtns and have them work their arse off in a few weeks.

Ok, so this is a first offense? Other than intense interviews with neighbors, classmates, etc, there are no other indicators of what someone may do, correct? So, just exactly - when there were no indicators - are they supposed to see into the future?

I think it’s highly unlikely that there were no indicators. I think it’s far more likely that UGA saw a talented football player and either looked past some risk factors or intentionally didn’t look hard for them.

The previous team’s coaching staff almost always has indicators.
