So, when you say someone is not good at what they do you are merely describing their ability and not criticizing it? Ok.
quote:Which has absolutely no bearing on what we are discussing. Whether he cares or not does not make the difference in what is "describing his ability" or criticizing him.
Do you think he cares? Do you think he cares what you care? Do you think he agrees with me that he wasnt a top 10 player in the country last season?
You are obviously taking this personally. My comments were merely trying to describe what I thought and not some personal criticism of you.

Am i blind if I reference his 2025 stats on 3rd down? Go to cfbstats. See how many 3rd down conversions he got last season.
I went and did not see any stats for 3rd down conversions for individuals. Since you are claiming you have them, I ask that you provide a link.

LINK
I have had issues with hyperlinks on this site. But if you copy/paste into a browser, it may work better.
Or go to cfbstats.com and the just follow the hyperlinks you want to find the information that you are searching.
(Go to teams for player specific data on Cash. Or go to conference or national if you want rankings on data. I doubt cash shows up on any of those)

He had 2 conversions on third down and one more TD (counts as a conversion, so 3 technically. But I wouldn't want to imply 3 conversions plus a TD)
He has 1 conversions on fourth down.
A total of 8 touches on third down (successful plays on 3 of them).
2 touches on 4th down (successful on one of them).

Your semantics are hilarious.
Congratulations is not a compliment when referencing not dieing (birthday) or divorcing (wedding anniversary).
But it is a compliment when referencing an earned achievement (making a cut in football. Earning professional recognition).
Calling out the program is not a direct criticism of cash jones (indirect. Sure).
Calling me out for not specifically stating the coaches (when I said program) is directly criticizing me. Sorry. You couldn't have been more direct
I dont even know what your first language is anymore.

No, your hyperlink worked fine!
Looks like (Correct me if i am looking at it wrong) he was used in 7 games on 3rd down and was used 11 times. He gained 99 yards in those 11 attempts for a 9 yard average. It looks like they only have receptions and rushing attempt are not there. (That I see)
When they needed 3 yards or fewer he averaged picking up 3.5 yards.
When they needed 4-6 yards he averaged 5.0 yards
When they needed 7-9 yards he got 1 attempt and got 0 yards.
When they needed 10+ yards he averaged 12.43.
Looks like he had 11 attempts total and got 2 first downs.
2 of his attempts went for 15+ yards and another going for 25+ yards and he only got 1 first down out of that...which I can't hold that against him. I mean it seems like he got a bunch of yards.
Now. All that aside, I prefer to have a big 200-220 pound running back in the game when going for 5 or fewer yards, and somebody like him when going for 10+ yards. I honestly don't want to say he was a great option, but he wasn't a bad option. When you are facing 10+ yards on third down it's going to be tough for any RB to make a first down. We threw the ball to him 7 time needing 10+ yards. That's a situation I would prefer going to a TE or WR.
For me it is rarely a good option to go to a RB when you need 10+ yards on third down.
Regardless, I had no idea where to go to find those stats. That's handy to have.

If you say so. When I played i never took it as a compliment if somebody said congratulations for making a good catch. Typically, they just said, "Great catch!" Maybe i should have been more forgiving.

Fair enough.

Sorry. You couldn't have been more direct
No sorry necessary. It was meant to be direct. I may not have been fair to you, though. I just remembered all of the people talking about how Cash Jones was awful during the season, and applied that unfairly to you.

He is good. Serviceable. Probably more than serviceable.
But 3rd down and goalline situations make and brake games.
I disagree that the program did itself justice where he is our best option.
To credit the program, he wasnt relied upon often. Limited games with 3rd down touches. Limited attempts in those games. The majority of touches were going elsewhere (Zachariah, tight ends, and wide receivers).
But success is credited on 1st downs and touch downs. The percentage isn't great (I understand looking at yardage. But converting 3 of 11 on third down touches isn't good. Who cares what the yards are if it is a critical moment when we need a conversion).
His biggest contribution (other than blocking and decoying) was moving the line of scrimmage on 3rd and long to a 4th and more manageable. If we didn't convert or didn't pin the offense subsequently, then that isn't the biggest contribution.
Bowens moved the sticks more on 3rd downs on the ground. Gunner more than him. Frazier was about the same as cash. Cash got the bulk of the pass attempts on 3rd down from the running back spot (11 completions).

Agreed. We saw an excellent example of that at Florida several years ago, when we could not punch the ball in.

Actually, probably a few more than that. Your link was for receptions and did not include rushing attempts. Granted he probably was not used a lot rushing on 3rd down, but i do seem to recall several times.

No. It is not. I would say that a lot also depends on the plays called and a few other factors like missed blocks, etc. I remember at least twice where he got big chunks of yardage (10 or more) and fell just short of a first down. A larger, more powerful back might have been able to get there, but apparently, our larger backs were not as good as catching the ball.

I remember wondering why we were not using Bowens more in those situations. My only guess would be has was banged up a lot, and maybe that was it?
Anyway. Thanks for the link and the discussion.
