Cash Jones still proving some people wrong

We had a bunch of Gil Brandts and Bill Walshes on this board last year tell us that Cash Jones had no business ever being on the field for Georgia, and now he might make the Falcons' regular season roster.
And even if he doesn't make it, the fact that it's August 23rd and he's still on an NFL training camp roster lets you know that he can play and he could always play.
So many lazy takes about Jones from fans last season. They saw an undersized white guy who started as a walk-on, and they locked in that he's just a Rudy and didn't have the athleticism to be on the field. First impression bias and the inability to come off a first impression bias is a mother*****r.
First impression bias is a cognitive shortcut where people form quick, often permanent judgments about someone or something based on the very first pieces of information received.

Kudos to Cash.
I still claim that a program like UGA "should" have a better player on the field on what literally is called "money downs".
Are we a top 5 program in the country?
Should we have a top 10 player in the country at that responsibility?
But maybe Cash will prove me wrong and spend 3 seasons on an NFL roster (I doubt it. But id love for him to prove me wrong).

A strong argument could be made one way or the other that he was a top 10 third down back in the country last season.
He had wide receiver skills, but he was really small. Had the team's longest reception in both of the Sugar Bowls and scored the only touchdown against Notre Dame, but he wasn't good on draw plays.

A strong argument backed by evidence?
Make it.

I thought that I just tried to.
How many teams in college football had a back with true wide receiver skills last season? It's college. Not the NFL.

In fairness, is that on Cash Jones or on the coaching staff? People point fingers at a player for being on the field, but it is the coaches that tell the player to get on the field, not the player. Georgia had top 10 players on the roster, so the question would naturally be why did the coaches choose to put him on the field?
Personally, from what I have gathered, he was extremely fast and caught the ball very well and that skill set is what the coaches wanted in those situations. If he was not up to the task, then it is up to the coaches to get the player on the field that can make the play.

I never said otherwise.

Almost all of them.
It is 2026. Speed at running back is not new.
And your claim of "wide receiver skills" is unfounded. His skills are no different than a huge percentage of running backs in 2026 who are asked to attack defenses with the passing game.

I never said you did. That said, when people criticize the player, saying he shouldn't ever sniff the field, they usually criticize the player for being on the field as if it were up to him. I do remember people criticizing him, instead of criticizing the coaches. In fact, in your post I responded to I did not see a word criticizing the coaches for putting him out there...just you criticizing his abilities.
Seems like at least a word should have been directed clearly about the coaches instead of about him, don't you think?

I am a little embarrassed for you.
Your support for a top 10 3rd down back in the country is that highlight reel.
I just watched it.
And that highlight reel. Career highlight reel.
Is your legitimate argument to the entire country.
That Cash Jones is a top 10 third down running back.
Instead of recalibrating your argument about the best of the best in the country.
You find and share that.

Dont be a dumbass.
My first sentence was a compliment.
My second sentence literally referenced the program.

Jesus christ.
I reread my first post in the thread and your take couldn't be more awful.
Other than a compliment to Cash at the intro and a conclusion that I hope he proves me wrong at the end, my entire post was about expectations for a program like UGA.

I can't help it. It's what I do.
Like I said. I prefer for people to explicitly call out who they think is the problem. If you think the coaches were the problem, then it should be said that the coaches made mistakes over and over again, instead of criticizing Cash's abilities. We all get it. We know it was not ideal to have him in certain situations. But if we can see it and the coaches cannot, then the onus is on the coaches for not going to a better fit for the situation. I mean you can deny it all you want, but you were clearly criticizing Cash Jones.
You even said "...maybe Cash will prove me wrong..." So, if it was not a criticism of Cash Jones, what did you mean by it? Obviously the NFL feels differently than you in his abilities.

That he is not the level of talent that a top 5 program in the country should be relying on to win money downs and to win games.
That position is hugely specific and hugely important in order to plaster Ws on the schedule against other elite competition.
Are you arguing that he is a top 10 running back in the country on 3rd down? You havent claimed this so far, so you may as well go on the record now.

Substitute program with coaching staff and athletic department.
This isn't rocket science. Who runs the program? Who gets pay raises and promotions for program success? Who gets fired for program failure?

English. Kudos is "congratulations" not a compliment. There is a difference.

So, you were criticizing his ability? Like I said...criticize the coaches, not the player.

I have no earthly idea one way or the other. I am not going to blindly claim he is just like you should not blindly claim he is not. It's fairly subjective as I am not sure there is a definitive stat to back it up or disprove it.
Are you claiming definitively he is not? I'll answer you like you answered ViolentHipSwivel. Prove it.

There is literally zero statistical argument that Cash Jones belongs in top 10 nationally conversations.
Look at his third down numbers last season. Jesus.
That said, an argument can be made for Cash based on talent if he can survive 3 seasons in the NFL on a team's roster (not practice squad. Not IR).
3 seasons in the NFL for a running back is one helluva accomplishment. It is the Not For Long. And particularly at the running back position.
If he has this success, I eat crow. Despite his limited production and controversy for the Dawgs. He would be "the man" and the Dawgs didn't know how to coach him up or gameplay him as a legitimate threat.

Try googling. Or a dictionary. Or anything else.

Your level of semantics is pathetic.
Is describing ability the same as criticizing it?
I am criticizing his role for a top 5 program in the country. Is that the same as a personal attack on Cash? Do you think he cares? Do you think he cares what you care? Do you think he agrees with me that he wasnt a top 10 player in the country last season? Or that a Georgia fan can have legitimate expectations at one of the most important positions on the field on the offense?

Am i blind if I reference his 2025 stats on 3rd down? Go to cfbstats. See how many 3rd down conversions he got last season. What was his greatest contribution to the team last season as a whole?
Based on the stats, he narrowed the difference from 3rd down and long to 4th down favorably.
That is it. That is his statistical contribution.
Were there must have 3rd down conversions left on the field? I say yes.
Was there a 4th down conversion left on the field? I say yes.
I am a Cash Jones fan and I want him to make it in the NFL.
But we should have been significantly better on 3rd downs last season. Especially with a mobile QB.

I'm confused. What statistics did you look at?

Dude. I have no idea where to fins specific down statistics. Share with me and i will look at them. Keep in mind, I said earlier i have no idea. I am not making the case that he was a top 10 3rd down back. YOU were making the case that he was NOT a top 10 3rd down back. If you share with me where to find that particular statistic I will be happy to take a look and perhaps we can be on the same page.
quote:Yes it is. The average running back lasts 2.57 years. I am frankly shocked he is still on an NFL roster to this point. I never thought he had NFL talent. But, I have to admit, I did think he was serviceable and made for a good 3rd down back in college, with his speed and pass catching ability.
3 seasons in the NFL for a running back is one helluva accomplishment.

I don't think you would need to eat crow. I (again) did not think he had NFL talent. I just felt like more of the criticism should be directed to the coaches and not at him. If I misunderstood what you are saying, then that's on me.
