We need another lockdown corner and a big possession receiver and we need them now.

We needed Tyson or ITS on campus early.

I don't think that is possible considering the semester has started and they cant sign until next month

Edit: My bad, read that as 'need' and not 'needed'. That's last nights booze and heartache typing.

In a screwy way, last night's result helps recruiting.

Kirby tells ITS and Campbell that they were the missing pieces.. if it was them back there instead of Parrish then we are champs.

Still would rather have the natty than a recruit, but I get the point being made.

Last night just made it abundantly clear that we aren't there in terms of talent.

- We have only one DB (Baker) who could crack the Bama two deep in the secondary
- They fielded 3 true freshman WRs who are more talented than any on our current roster
- Their freshman QB-RB combo of Tua and Harris will enter next season as the best in the conference at their positions
- Their depth on OL is where we want to be and are trying to get. Lost their left tackle (arguably best in conference), and replaced him with Leatherwood, who was the best OL in his class.
- Despite our depth on the DL, and what I thought was a good game from Trent and Clark, we don't have a creature like D. Payne on our roster and haven't in a long time.

From a coaching standpoint:
- Offensive gameplan in the second half was very bad. I'm quick to blame Chaney, but make no mistake, the ultra conservative philosophy comes from Kirby. He will have to adapt if we want to get over the hump.
- Their OC Daboll, who has been maligned this year, showed his NFL background by identifying and exploiting matchups all night. Parrish has been a great servant for the program but was overmatched by their freshmen receivers. Whenever they had one on one with him, they went to it.
- Saban's game management and adjustments were the best I've seen since ours at the rose bowl, which was the best I've seen in a long time.

Play calling lost us the game, not talent.

A 3 point loss in overtime shows a talent deficiency? Some of you are fricking retarded.

It's both/and. We haven't had excellent play calling or gameplanning all year. Fortunately we have had a big talent advantage against the majority of opponents. In my mind, we played three games against teams with equal or better talent: Auburn1, Auburn2, Bama. We went 1-2 in those games.

A more talented team this year helped cover some of the deficiencies we saw last year. Hopefully continued infusion of talent will help that trend progress. I also hope Kirby will continue to self evaluate and change his approach. Our tendency to turtle up with a lead cost us big time in this game. DC will likely be a rotating door for us as guys get jobs, and the fat man is what he is at OC now 30ish years into his career.

What a ridiculous statement. I promise Saban would have loved to had our WRs last night.
