Why? Gwinnett is currently one of the most diverse Counties in the entire US with a school system that is less than 50% white.

Current plans in Gwinnett call for Marta to extend through Jimmy Carter to Gwinnett Place.

Wait, really? I was under the impression that Gwinnett had fought MARTA off with a vengeance?

They have, that's why the north end is still a nice place to live.

That's what I thought.

Also, just got an ESPN text saying Atlanta plans on demolishing the Ted. That's kinda sad but oh well.

Gwinnett has changed(much like the rest of ATL) a lot in jut the past few years. Demographics are about as diverse as you can get. Gwinnett has taken in refugees from Vietnam to Balkans. Just check out some of their farmers markets.

The biggest ethnicity that will lock down the county will be the Latinos. There's currently a battle that's going on right now hundreds of miles away, and the winner gets Gwinnett. Every once in a while cops will find someone tortured/murdered ese in a foreclosed house in Gwinnett, but that's worst case since it brings attention. Los Zetas seem to be the favorite, but I wouldn't put anything past the Juarez Ctl. Our dynamic interstate systems comes with positives and negatives.

Thank God I live next on the 75 side.

They did 30 years ago. It made some sense then. Now it doesn't. There isn't anybody left to keep out. They are all here.

Gwinnett is WAY more diverse than "Atlanta" which is primarily black and white.

Gwinnett is literally one of the most diverse counties in the country. It has one of the largest Korean populations in the country. There is a large Hispanic population along with just about everything else.

Atlanta public schools - 79%black, 12%white, 9%other
Gwinnett - 29%black, 32%white, 39%other

Atlanta is the "old" south but love to point fingers at Cobb and Gwinnett that are actually more diverse than they are. Diverse=mixing of all races.

its not really about keeping anybody out, its about revenue. Gwinnett and Cobb dont want to share any of it with fulton/MARTA

They should drop the "Atlanta" out of Atlanta Braves if they're going to move them to the Burbs.

Smyrna Braves has a lovely ring to it.

75/285 is going to be twice the clusterfrick and it makes me

They really fricked this up.

It's always a cluster. Maybe this might help make some changes.

I guess I'm an idiot. Can you expand on this?

Can you name the two major cities that saw the largest influx of NOLA and Gulf Coast refugees following Katrina? I can.

Houston
Atlanta

100,000+

So, a lot of New Orleanians come to Atlanta and hang out in our fair city.

As Atlanta has been the Capital of the New South since the 1960s, many a NOLA businessman has spent time in Atlanta. It's a destination for many Southerners who like to vacation in the South (especially for shopping, attractions, etc). So, there are a lot of connections between the two cities. Ever heard of the Crescent Line? Look it up - I used to take the train with my Nana to New Orleans to visit friends at least twice a year for many years in the 1980s.

I've always loved it. It's been about ten years since I've taken it, but it's a really neat route. As a kid, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. As an adult, with access to the bar, I REALLY loved it. Takes you through a lot of forgotten little towns - very much a cool way to see the South that's not on the interstates.

Yep

I still don't see why they would have so much hatred towards us? They're an afterthought for most of us.

It goes back to the 70s and the 80s when Southern cities were really starting to develop. It's a bit of the "little brother" complex. They have similar issues with Houston. Atlanta is the international city of the South - the major business hub for non-petroleum industry.

Houston stole the petroleum industry.

It really has nothing to do with Atlanta or Houston, but with poor (read: crooked) leadership in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, but the hatred is aimed at us and Houston.

Oh yea, I can attest to that. That's why it's now Sugarroaf and Duruth.

I just figured they were still fighting it and even with the diversity I don't see them wanting any ATL bums coming to our neck of the woods

That'd be nice

Hey, yall are all smart and been around a while, remember when they were gonna do that outer perimeter? Didn't it get fricked up because of a corruption scandal involving the politicians that were involved?

No, it got fricked because the people up "there" didn't want people from down "here" coming their way. So, a wanna be governor promised them he would kill it if he won. He did and he did. The State sold most of the land they had acquired to make sure it couldn't happen in the future.

Dat funny. Don't care who you are. The good news is, without them Gwinnett would be broke and our schools education level would be crap.

What a bunch of corrupt fricks. God forbid this state, you know, be proactive or anything. As if N/S GA is something to behold

......it cannot even slightly compare to atl when it comes to young professionals..

I always get a kick out of how the office/cubicle-dwelling worker-bees of Atlanta always refer to themselves as "young professionals".

I guess calling themselves "young professionals" makes them feel better about waking up in their Post Property apartment bee-hive next to a traffic-clogged freeway.......that they endure so that they can keep checking off the same clone goals on the yuppie checklist of "success".

To each his own, i guess.
