That's odd he would leave Florida. He's done nothing but win but not sure what his recruiting reputation is. If I'm looking at this objectively, I don't know why a coach would leave Florida for GA. There must have been some bad blood with him and the AD, but Florida has been really successful in hoops for a while now. It's not a big splash hire but it seems like a solid one.

Are you one of the ones that thought we were getting scott drew or sean miller?
Not at all and you’ll find nothing to suggest otherwise. I get the hire… SEC vet… proven within the league I guess… but overall pretty underwhelming. Maybe he’ll work out. It’s not like he’s following a legend here.

Probably underachieved at UF,but tough position to be the guy after Donavan. Will have much lower expectations here.
that is the exact situation. Mark Richt didn't win it all at UGA but you don't think a program like USC or NC State would have given a left nut for him?

All I can say is this is weird. He was more successful than Crean obviously but it’s not like he had Florida perennially competing for league titles. Sure they made the tourney but several years they were a bubble team that got lucky.

It's only underwhelming because practically nobody was mentioning his name and the hire didn't have time to marinate and build it just came out immediately and here it is.
Anyone with common sense knew we weren't getting scott drew, sean miller, rick pitino, etc. It was nearly certain it was gonna be from the pool of mid majors consisting of gates, mcmahon, etc. Gates became more underwhelming by the day the more i looked into his resume. The only guy that was realistic that I even really wanted was mcmahon and I still feel like he would have been a great hire.
So..to get a guy that has experience doing well at a school like LaTech, PLUS...experience winning at a big time P5 school taking them to the NCAAT every year, including an elite 8, AND it's in the Southeast..I mean how could you dislike the hire?

he was at uF 6 years where a postseason was played. He made the posteaseon in 5 of those, and the NCAAT in 4 of them. Those 4 NCAAT appearances included at least 1 win in all 4 of them.
What we have here is a case of misplaced expectations. Flroida thinks they're
UNC or Kansas so they fired a guy for "only" making sweet 16s. At UGA we'll give the guy an extension for simply winnig a tournament game. That's what people don't seem to understand. This is a really good hire for our program especially the place it's currently in.

White is a dud but a better dud than Crean. His best bet is to hire some AAU connected assistance out of Atlanta to get some recruits.

Who do y’all want us to hire?
If you’re against White, you have to come up with a better person.
I think it’s a very good hire.

the most actually realistic person on our radar (mcmahon) is not as accomplished as white. sean miller, pitino, or drew were not real candidates.
I'd love to hear why he's such a dud.

This may not be over. Do we still pull in Hayes as an AHC/their apparent and start recruiting GA like it always should have been?

It is very similar. No doubt about it. Difference is White is 11 years younger than crean, white has spent most of his career in the south while crean spent most of his in the north, and white is coming straight over whereas crean took a year vacation before coming on.
Handful of similarities but some MAJOR differences as well.

I would have rather had Andy Kennedy

that hire would have been nationally laughed at far worse than mike white is. the only reason kennedy has been a hote name in the last month is because he's taken a small team to the ncaa. No different than gates/mcmahon/etc.
He was at ole miss 12 years and took them to 2 NCAATs. The same amoutn mark fox took us to. Mike white's resume shits on kennedy's.

I was a little taken aback at first, but after thinking about it, I like the hire.
White had one down year, this year, and turd fans were already getting restless. Unrealistic exepctations much?
Now I wouldn't be opposed at all to bringing Jonas aboard as AHC to serve under him and help w/the local HS talent and AAH circuit.

People came up with better options, but the response is “they weren’t real candidates” or “we wouldn’t pay what took to get them here,” etc
I’m not upset at the hire, but do think we could have made a bigger splash. Obviously, it’s not over and getting some connected assistants would be huge.
I do like White’s connections in the South, but only time will tell if that’s enough to build our program that is at its worst time in history.
Also, curious what types of resources was promised to him (facilities and such).
I give this a Grade of B right now. I think it’s realistic to sneak into the NCAAT in a couple years, but is that what we are looking for, or could we have gotten more from someone else.
Anyway, Go Dawgs

Exactly.
And he would of made the tourney in 2020 had it not bee cancelled due to COVID.
UF fans are some unrealistic assholes.

If he gets us to 4 tourneys in 6 years(woulda been 5 in 6 had it not been for COVID) they'll give him a lifetime contract.
