In the SECCG Fromm looked every bit as good as Lawrence did until Bama adjusted and started living in our backfield. Not saying Lawrence isn’t more talented...but he didn’t get sacked ONCE last night.

I think that is in part Clemson’s OL being more seasoned (and healthy) but also play calling as WG eluded to. We tried hard to run the clock out and created obvious passing downs. That said, our guys didn’t execute even when the play was there. Fromm really did play well vs Alabama but his 4th quarter vs Trevor Lawrence’s 3rd is what leads me to point toward TL having been the more successful vs the tide, play calling or not.

I don’t know whether it would’ve made the difference in the game for sure, but the missed “automatic” FG in the third quarter had an enormous impact on the rest of the SEC championship.

If that team goes down by 3 scores, they’re pretty much forced to change their gameplan and abandon the run, which had been most of their offense up to that point. Tua, hobbled or not, was trying to be a hero in making a statement for the Heisman Trophy. With a bigger margin to overcome, he probably makes another mistake or two with the way he was throwing it deep into coverage.

Bama would’ve been in the playoff regardless if they’d won or lost the SECCG, but if we could’ve just made those kinds of routine plays that we expected the team to make, who knows what the final score of that game could’ve been?

I don't necessarily agree with that although it's irrelevant now of course. I think the committee has always gone with best resume over what the eye test would perceive as "best team".

If we had won, you'd have:

1) 12-1 bama, no championship, best win over LSU?

2) 12-1 OU, big 12 champs, wins over two top 12 teams in the final two weeks (avenging their only loss in the process)

Personally I dont' see how bama would get in over OU in that case.

More often than not, Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt with the “eye test”. They played for the BCS/CFP without winning it’s division a couple of times.

I disagree, they get the benefit because their resume is better than the team they're going head to head against.

In 2011 they had 1 loss in OT by 3 to the undisputed #1 team, OSU had 1 loss to a really bad iowa state. That's a tossup but I can undersatnd the logic.

Last year they were going head to head with OSU, who had 1 more loss (2 to 1) and a BAD one at that in a beatdown to a mediocre iowa.

I'm as big a bama hater as anyoen else and like the rest of America I"m tired of seeing them every year, but it's not their fault that when it gets down to the 11th hour the teams they're going head to head with have worse resumes.
