What is going on in the Classic City? I see videos of police clearing the streets one night. I saw dancing in the streets yesterday. Is it violent? Is there looting? Peaceful protesting is all and good. Violence and looting does more harm than good for the division going on in this country.

No looting but as all of you know Athens is a pretty hard left leaning city in general being one of our elected officials got sworn in on the Auto biography of Malcom X.

So it was to be expected, they did vandalize the Confederate statue on Broad street but no looting.
This weekend there was some protesting in the Epps bridge area. Also non violent and pretty much went unnoticed.

We had kids softball all weekend so I missed all of it around town just what I heard and read in the paper.

Note : this is not a political opinion one way or the other. Just stating what i know as a resident here.

Nothing beyond the norm for Athens. There are protests and large gatherings that block off downtown streets all the time. Other than some tear gas being deployed a couple of weeks a ago, nobody got hurt and no stores or restaurants were attacked. Confederate monument at the broad street crosswalk is being removed which may end up being the only physically noticeable thing from the past few weekends

That's a shame, I didn't even know it was a Confederate monument I've just always liked the look of it in that spot. Oh well

Yeah the same chick who got sworn in on the Malcolm x book also tested positive for COVID after yelling into a bull horn and passing it around during the first weekend of protests.

Hopefully we can replace it with something that looks just as good, but doesn’t represent the Confederacy then.

I think it’s the perfect spot for the Herschel statue that has been floating around Athens the past few years.

Love that idea. Not sure why people are downvoting the idea of something not representing the confederacy

Doubt the people who want the statue removed would be pro Herschel once they found out he supports Trump. plus, Athens has more to offer than UGA Football. Don't need another football statue there imo.

Honestly I never even realized there was a statue there, between all the trees and keeping my head on a swivel through that intersection by foot or automobile.

Wayne Knight, Miss Sandra from Snelling, and Sweater guy from Stegeman drinking Terrapins on the porch of the Green House in right field at Foley. Maybe a carving or something. Put a tv in the corner with a beat down of Florida going.

Its not that exciting really. I was asking who was good at photoshop

A musician friend in Sav is always utterly delighted about the race war and covid situation potentially tanking Trump in november

He sent me a pic of himself laughing his arse off at poll numbers yesterday. I wanted somebody to photoshop a pic of a massive gnarly black cock going in his mouth

Thats all
