At this point, baseball is giving me something to look forward to at the end of what are becoming very long days It’s just slow enough that I can do my fatherly duties and keep up with what’s going on (and update/talk about it here). And I’m far from the most knowledgeable guy in this thread but I’ve watched my fair share of college baseball over the years. Doesn’t mean I’m always right, certainly prone to hyperbole. Still, middle inning relief pitchers are like football kickers: no matter how clutch, I’ll just never feel totally comfortable with or confident in them. So doing what they did on Saturday just further damages my psyche in that regard

Some interesting notes from the postgame write up:

quote:

The 10-2 start is the best under Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin and the best by a Georgia team since 2012 (11-2).

quote:

With Shane Marshall's home run, 10 different Georgia players have gone yard this season through 12 games. This number leads the SEC with the next team entering tonight having seven players with at least one home run.

Haven’t watched, but it appears from what I’ve read we are good this year? Is that accurate?

yeah we're pretty solid. I haven't the slightest clue about how good other teams are so with that said I woudl think that hosting a regional should be in the cards for us again. Pitching seems to be a strong point, hitting alright so far (minus 1 game). Looks like we'll be without tucker bradley this year which is a fairly big blow (combined with the loss of sasser).

At any rate should be a fun season to watch unlike every other year of stricklin minus last year. It sucks that so much of the SEC is really good too.

We’re certainly competitive but we won’t know to what extent really until we play Carolina next weekend and LSU the weekend after that. We haven’t exactly played murderers row OOC and while we’ve done what we should, we’ve also had stretches where our bats have gone cold and the bullpen hasn’t performed as expected.

There’s reason to be optimistic and hopeful and I think this is easily a tournament team but whether a 2 seed or a regional host I’m not yet sure

Good to see Maxwell get some production beyond bunt singles. Especially with C.J. pitching today

Played baseball with a couple of rednecks years ago who always hollered “DOO DOO” or “gon and drop some doo doo” every time someone got hold of a pitch and it has kind of stuck it definitely seems to work best if you imagine someone with a thick drawl and a huge dip in yelling it

Dawgs win it 5-1, improve to 11-2 on the year.

Game 1 against Presbyterian on Friday has been moved up to 3PM due to weather. Likely that Saturday gets rained out, too, and forces a double header Sunday.

Not going to say anything too positive yet. I still remember the week long Charleston trip last year, but at least we are beating teams we are supposed to so far this year.

We’ve yet to face a really good team and won’t face one until we roll into Founders Park in Columbia (Presbyterian is mediocre and State is bad). Also concerning that we may not yet have played a standard 3 day weekend series (everything has been thrown off by weather thus far). But yeah we’ve done what we are supposed to do (minus a bad game at the plate vs LIU and a bad inning on the mound vs Southern). Ideally we roll into that series next weekend at 15-2 and have banked some wins for the inevitable rough patch that comes with every season. Would rather us struggle against Carolina and LSU and then hit our stride in April than the other way around

Yep. It’s the smart play to insure that Wilcox has better middle inning support should we need it in Game 2 whereas Locey can make it 6-7 innings. Really like having Proctor back, too. He, Webb, Kristofak; and Schunk make for a good grouping of they can all stay consistent. Really like what I’ve seen out of Elliott and Smith midweek, too. We seem to have a solid starting pitching corps of 5-6 options which is half the battle come tournament time
