Former 2026 commit Chace Calicut is playing for Georgia Southern. Prather Hudson is on staff at GS and had connection with him from when he was with UGA staff.

Wonder if this means anything one way or the other about whether or not Jaylen Wade will reclassify.

From what I understand that is definitely off the table. He is not reclassifying

There's not much reason for hand-wringing over recruiting. There's no satisfaction when a 5 star commits, because the odds of them signing are a coin toss, and the odds they'll ever contribute once they've signed may be less than that. The more highly rated recruits you sign, the more you'll pay big bucks and subsequently lose in the portal. Throw in the difficulty of HS evaluations and the cost/benefit ratio of HS recruiting sucks for everyone now.

If Kirby can find a core group of talented recruits and keep enough of the best ones on campus for 3 or 4 years, the portal will fill the gaps. As of 2026, he continues to field rosters that will be in the hunt for a championship. Trying to divine the future beyond that using a legacy metric (like recruit rankings in June) feels like a complete waste of time.

Did I just read that the chance of a 5 star ever contributing once they've signed is less than half?

I did say "may be less than that", but I should have been more precise, so I'll amend that to say contributors in line with the cost of keeping them on roster, not a minor role player. The NIL era officially started 2021 and the impact is still increasing. In the age of unlimited transfers, the odds that 5 star recruits will wait their turn and earn their keep is not very good, considering that they start getting paid large amounts immediately. The ones who earn their money for multiple seasons is even lower because of early NFL departures, but that's moving the goalpost again so let's ignore it for now.

247 composite 5 stars at UGA since 2021 who I think met that standard.

Class of 2021
Mims Yes
Vandagrif No
Sorey No
Mondon Yes

Class of 2022
M Williams - Yes
Starks Yes
MJones No
Singletary No
Everette Yes

Class of 2023
D Wilson No
R Wilson Yes
Aguero No (some may say yes, but he probably lost his job and definitely quit on his team prior to the playoffs so I say no)
Hall - not yet due to injuries, but I'm still hopeful.
AJ Harris (.9832, which is normally a 5 star) - No

Class of 2024
ERobinson - Yes
JWilliams - Yes, a close call but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt going forward.
Bolden - Yes
Ajonye - Not yet
Cole - Yes

Class of 2025
Too early to judge anyone, but no transfers yet which is very good.

That's 10/19 so far at UGA (11/19 if you include Aguero), slightly above 50%. In the 1st 3 classes, which are the ones essentially decided, half of our 5 stars transferred out, which doesn't leave a lot of room for non-transfer misses (misevaluations and injuries). That number could easily increase as portal money continues to rise and program loyalty declines. Georgia did a very good job of roster retention this offseason. If they do that going forward I may have overestimated the level of attrition due to transfers.

You just listed 5 different players who started at least one game for Georgia as never contributing.

You have relocated to a different planet, I swear.

I clarified my statement to appease you, but you ignored that part. That's okay, I'd rather not trash up the recruiting thread quibbling with a Tennessee fan who's busy bitching about Georgia's recruiting and telling everyone repeatedly how concerned you are (just like you were doing in last last year's recruiting thread when I pointed it out). After all, you're "one of the most positive [Tennessee] posters on here", at least when you're not starting threads about "THUGA" on the rant.

Anything positive on the horizon for us? I saw we missed on Gilbert to Auburn and June is our “hot time”

I know we pulled in a few guys not long ago, but it still feels a little stagnant.

I believe the safety aparcio Bailey announces the 27th and the 5* receiver is down to us Clemson and A&M the 28th

But still seems a little quiet. That may just be new recruiting though if you don’t “add to cart” immediately though. Tough to say

I'm not contributing any money, because I think it's kind of bullshite now. But are we just stacking up 3 stars now? Glad I got to see a Natty in person before all this bullshite

It is kind of crazy. The board said here (and it checks out so far) that we are in pursuit of guys who aren’t pre Madonna, high dollar hs kids who are unproven. Mostly guys who have their head on straight, will stay in the program and get made into something and potentially we get aggressive portal time moving forward on established players.

Right now it’s the story we sort of need because we in the HS landscape are getting worked over which I can’t understand. At least at this level. Some of the numbers floating out there on close rates, blue chips hosted much less closed, and targets are so shocking you would think this is one of your buddies playing NCAA and building a program up like Kennesaw.

Again we have all the track record in the world, but it’s as if we have fallen off a cliff in recruiting cache. The coaching, development, winning, nfl pitches don’t seem to be landing like they once did.

The philosophy as of now is development and retention with filling gaps through the portal with system/culture fits. The biggest NIL deals from this offseason were to players that publicly and privately flirted with the portal. There is no HC in college football that has identified skillset and talent in low 4* and 3* recruits and turned them into day 1 or 2 draft picks like CKS. As far as the portal goes, same idea. The staff identities system and culture fits and sell them in the NFL success. It’s not popular but there are many, many examples of this working for UGA.

I think all the NIL whores will ultimately face planted when their boosters shell out $5m for a HS kid who sits the bench in year one and transfers out the next...

You can't make your millions billions worrying about ROI only to lose it donating to NIL.... They will quit at some point.. OSU, Michigan, Indiana, Miami hadn't sniff success in a while so they had plenty of suckers.
