Interesting. Hopefully that sparks the team and we win with confidence heading to game 2. If we can get 7 or 8 from cannon….should also help save some arms for game 2 and 3

On the flip side, if we just come out red hot at the plate and we're up like 8-0 after 3, would we consider pulling cannon and throwing him again in game 3? That might be crazy, I don't really know if that's feasible or not. Just asking.

TD can chime in, but I don’t think that would be an option. I think if we got that lead, we ride Cannon to secure the win and save some arms. It’s tough at the end of the season to prepare for starting a game, pitch 3 innings, then still be rested in 2 days to start again. Just my thought tho

Stricklin said this morning they chose to go with Cannon largely because we more or less have to stay out of the losers bracket due to our overall absence of arms. Even if we cruise in Game 1 somehow, Cannon would be of more use to the staff as a whole to go 7+ innings deep that game and preserve other arms for later games rather than trying to bring him back in short rest and a limited pitch count later.

Ultimately, we’ve got to score a lot of runs to win games in this regional regardless of pitching. If we lose, chances are pretty high it’ll have been the offense that failed us

I like it, obviously this would have been my play was I coaching. If we get an 8 inning performance in a win with Cannon tomorrow, look out.

Was hoping for a better start to be honest.

3 run bomb for VCU in the first. 1 out

Not enjoying the first half of the first inning so far, though.

3-0 VCU. Cannon isn’t getting outside corner at all and he is getting jumped in otherwise

Like I said this week, we had better come ready to swing a hot bar or we are fricked regardless of our arms. Balls look juiced

Dunno bout the balls but Cannon has to lock in and not leave meatballs center cut, that's for sure.

Bummer not cashing in on those walks, but their pitcher is very gettable.

So far, I see a confident, cocky VCU team and a sluggish, going-through-the-motions UGA squad.

At this rate, Cannon may make it 5 innings with his pitch count.

Too early to say we’re fricked but we are in prime position to be fricked at a later time

His breaking ball just doesn't have any bite to it. Gotta put these dudes away with 2 strikes

Yeah can definitely sense an energy difference between the teams. No real excuse for that mindset from us.
