Welp, we've feasted once again on a 13th grade team... get some next weekend and I'll be impressed.

Marshall adds to the lead with a sac squeeze bunt, scores Tate
In the 8th now with Marsh in. Just whizzed 93 for a swinging K, has looked promising so far as a freshman.
We’ve got to figure out our Sunday starter because Brown is a bullpen arm right now; breaks down in the 3rd. Wagner is only marginally better. Preseason, I would think we would have enough fire power to accommodate but with both Ross and Childers out and Sully sucking wind on Saturdays, we can’t start Woods like we probably should because we need him to go long innings in our second games
At the plate, it’s an absolute mental thing with the team. Which means it can be fixed but that also makes it an epidemic of sorts. We are consistently getting in base and in scoring position but we piss our pants when it comes time to pull the trigger.

Dawgs win it 9-5, complete the sweep and improve to 4-1 on the week, 5-1 over our last 6. See above for thoughts and notes

Well, hopefully we start getting it straightened out on Sundays and with the runners on base hitting…cause SEC play opens this week, and starts off with a team that was top 10 two weeks ago

Is it so off the wall to be working in some of these freshman arms to see what we have BEFORE heading into SEC play? I know we will get to a game where we need someone to come in and close an inning, go 2 or 3 innings to help get to a closer. I would rather have a little experience instead of the ole throw 'em in there and see what they can do on a big stage where they are wide eyed and inexperienced.

So on that topic:
We’ve pitched a few freshmen so far this season (typically in relief; only Coleman Willis has snagged a start at Southern on Tuesday). Of those, Chandler Marsh has looked the best in 2 games.
Last year, we more or less lived and died by throwing freshmen arms into the fire (by necessity, due to injury) and they kind of responded well to the mental challenge when called upon (particularly Liam Sullivan). Disconcerting part is Woods/Wagner seem to have taken small steps forward from last year while Sullivan has fallen backward.
All this to say that freshman arms are total crapshoots and we don’t currently have a frosh Wilcox on staff who can just arm talent his way through our schedule so long as he locates his pitches reasonably well. Only real play right now is to hope Sully pulls it together on Saturdays so we can slide Woods into the Sunday spot. Or for Brown to turn a mental corner wherein we play dual starter games on Saturday/Sunday. Back end of the pen has arms but they do us no good if we can’t give them a game to command by the 7th+

Dawgs hold steady at 20 in D1Baseball poll, drop 4 spots to 18 in Baseball America (went 4-1 on the week so the drop seems severe but can’t say I disagree otherwise; we are a 2 seed in the tournament at best right now. Can be better but have to prove it)

I've enjoyed the play by play and running commentary.
Keep it up and thanks.

My pleasure
Freshman Coleman Willis gets the start on the mound tonight
Fellow freshman Dylan Taylor will make his first career start at 2B in place of Cory Acton

Dawgs win it 15-3
Exorcised some offensive demons tonight and cleared the bench. Just what the doctor ordered with Moo State rolling in for a Friday night tilt at 7PM

Looks like Collins is seeing the ball really good. That hard hit down the 1rst base line was a rocket.
Spikes AB where he battled 4 or 5 pitches fouling them off looked promising even though it ended with a deep fly ball to center.
I wish the replay "booth" would move closer to the fence to keep the umps from running off the field.

I believe Collins leads the league in slugging pct right now and Anderson might lead in OBP (he’s north of .500).
I’m fine with guys flying out or even striking out. But you’d better take 6-8+ pitches in the process if you do. In the college game, running up pitch counts is offensive currency, a down payment on runs to be scored later.
There’s so much that needs to be cleaned up with replay in college baseball. Reviews need to be more conveniently located, umps need to be required to communicate the calls/decisions to the crowd, and there needs to be a limit on number of reviews in a game/per side

Looking iffy for Friday against MSU weather wise.
Would mean a double header Saturday

Rotation this weekend:
Friday - Cannon
Saturday - Wagner
Sunday - Brown
Sully out with an undisclosed injury but expected to return for Kentucky.
Acton should be back, sat out Tuesday with a hip flexor.
Buckle up, going to need offense to survive the weekend
