I guess there's been some disappointment about Beck's senior stats. Watching his senior videos you can tell he was under a lot of pressure to get the ball out fast, but I like his arm and his height. Not fast but he moves pretty well in the pocket. As always with quarterbacks, how he develops mentally will be the key.

I have to ask. What do you consider a big time DT?

Jalen Carter is #6 nationally at his position and #53 overall. That is big time to me.

I'm with you on SVP and Smith. Hope we can keep them. If not, our offensive line could turn into a liability in a hurry.

I don't know much about Matt Luke as an Offensive Line coach. Since Kirby took him so quickly, I can only guess he is a good recruiter. Does anybody know how good he is at developing players?

I always felt Luke got a raw deal at Ole Miss. He brought them through some tough times and had his hands tied. now that they are untied they fired him.

Beck should be that guy but lot of trepidation that he would be ready to play in 2020.

Kind of like when Eason got hurt in 2017?
I have no idea if Beck is or isn't ready. A lot of freshmen QBs are starting for their teams, now, though.
I mean, we had a freshman that didn't start and left immediately. These days if an excellent QB doesn't start from the beginning they tend to jump into the portal.

If he has improved his accuracy after so much time practicing with the team, I'd have to assume Mathis is the leader in the clubhouse.

I don't think he has been practicing, though, has he?

Mathis is coming off brain surgery. No way he’s the leader in the club house. And I cannot imagine Beck is in any way ready to take over. Your clubhouse leader in a Frommless world is Stetson Bennett unless you get a transfer.

I was told he's done non-contact work for much of the season.

Good news! I didn't realize that!

Marcus Stroud and Richard Seymour type? I realize that's completely unfair and unrealistic.

Admittedly I had forgotten about Carter since he committed so early and never seemed to waiver.

Don't sleep on Jalen Carter. He's a big time player - great athlete with serious upside. Quick and very strong.

He is a very good recruiter.

He had a few NFL guys at Duke and at Ole Miss, several in the first two rounds.

Yes and no. We got them before. Hopefully we can get someone like them again.

I gotta tell you, I love the kids that commit early...keep their mouths shut and stay committed. But you are right. It's easy to overlook them sometimes.

All that said.....a nice big monster like Seymore or Stroud is great, but I had a lot of satisfaction in watching our DLine perform this past year. It seemed like teams were trying to run one way...then the other and just couldn't. It was like they were running into an impenetrable wall out there. It was just solid all the way around. But we shouldn't overlook the linebackers, too. I think their improvement helped make the DLine look better, too. I am really excited about our defense.

now if we can get the offense on track. I don't necessarily want to throw the ball all over the field...just do it more and with more effectiveness.

Thanks, coach7! There is only one Pittman, but if we can continue to recruit well and develop I will be happy. There seem to be times when our Oline had a hard time getting to the second level to reach their blocks. I realize part of that was due to teams putting extra people in the box, but it seemed like it happened more than it should have.

I mean it's unfair to try and hold guys we've signed the last few years up to those guys.

Gotcha. on the other hand, I have not seen a more dominant DLine than what we had this year. 1 rushing TD all year? Unbelievable. I honestly believe Scott is a better developer of talent than recruiter....and that can be very valuable. It's nice to get 5* guys, but if we don't develop them...

I've been critical of his recruiting, but if you look at who we've signed over the last few years, it's damn good, regardless of who he recruited.

Agreed. If he is a developer of talent, let the other guys on the staff recruit and let him develop.

Been good talking to you, HT. Gotta run!
