The official schedule for conference games isn’t out yet, but I noticed that we will definitely be playing an SEC game the opening weekend of the season. All of the dates for non conference games are finalized and August 30th isn’t one of them.

Can’t remember the last time we opened with a conference game, probably South Carolina in the early 90s.

Looks like Vandy is the only team we’ll play in 2019 that doesn’t have an opening week game. So it’ll be Dawgs vs. Dores week one next year.

Week 1 might be that non con game first weekend of sept unless we are having 2 off weeks.

2019 is a unique year calendar wise. Since Labor Day falls very early (September 2nd) there are 14 weeks for teams to play 12 games, thus an extra bye week. That game at Vandy opening weekend will actually be in August.

Living in Nashville, opening with Vandy is awesome and it gets that aggravating game out of the way.

If I had to guess, the other off week would come the week before Tech. It fell that way a few times during Richt’s tenure, but that’s a complete guess.

I’ll guess this is the schedule
At Vandy
Murray State
Arkansas State
Notre Dame
Mizzou
@ Tennessee
A&M
Bye
Florida
South Carolina
At Auburn
Kentucky
Bye
At GT

To start the year on the road is the one time I would be cool with Thursday.

Vandy on a Thursday to open the season would be A-OK with me... definitely would be planning a work trip to Nashville.

I think I remember a few years ago it was said we would never play on a Thursday. Those are for mediocre teams like GT and Auburn

If we ended up getting a 2nd bye week before Tech I legitimately don't think they'd gain more than 150 total yards on us in 2019. That would be a total shellacking the likes of which we've never seen.

Thats the exact week to work on Bama. How would you approach this off week as a coach?

I was thinking from a rest approach, not so much game planning. Get all the players close to 100% health and they'll be trained to attack Tech the next week. Talent alone in 2019 will allow us to nuke Tech.

That said I'd cover Alabama most every practice, but make sure to have a few periods scattered over the week to reinforce good fundamentals against the option
