Sounds like he just didn't want to come to UGA. Best of luck to him.

Told my friend today that I’m not even worried about him signing with auburn. Still feel confident he’ll have a change of heart between now and December

Can you imagine the melt from Auburn fans when/if Pappoe flips? OP told Kipp he is still taking visits and wants to be recruited. That’s very telling as well as Rusty hinting this isn’t over.

Two pieces of good news:
1. Kenyatta's kid is going to Texas and hopefully Kenyatta Sr goes with him. In any event, his political sandcastle is washing away now that he can't pimp his sons friends anymore.
2. The Grayson enigma should end. They are no longer the football school of choice in Gwinnett. Whatever voodoo UGA has over there should be much less consequential in the future.

It's hard to judge because on the internet you never know who is really a fan and who isn't. Either way, Owen Pappoe is a very good athlete, but he has a long way to go before he's a great ILB'er. Comparisons to R Smith are premature. Roquan played like a future All American while he was in high school. Going into his senior season, Pappoe hasn't shown that yet. I'd love to have him, but it remains to be seen if he's got the rare combination of great athleticism, great anticipation and fearlessness that position requires.
But, if we don't get several stud, ready-to-play DL in this 2019 class, I'm gonna freak out like I did last summer again. One more mediocre class at that position will put the defense in a hole for a while.

Been gone from GA HS football a while now...who is the new king on the block?

Well, North Gwinnett won the title last year
As far as talent, I think it's become pretty well balanced across the county again.
Usual suspects: Buford, North, Grayson, Norcross, etc.

Pappoe is playing on a higher level than Roquan did at this point in High School. Roquan did't "breakout" until 2017. I love Georgia High School football and I follow all the top athletes. Pappoe will make OC's change their scheme.

Smith had 112 tackles (70 solo), 5 ints, 4 touchdowns as a sophmore in HS. 100 tackles, 27 tfl, 3 ints, 11 TD's (9 on offense since he played both ways) as a junior. Then his senior season, Smith had 173 tackles, 26 tfl and 12 TD's. And that was doubly impressive since he played both ways a lot of the time.
And you may not consider it a "breakout", but Roquan Smith led Georgia in tackles with 95 as a first year starter (started 10 games) in 2016. Most people considered that a pretty impressive breakout at his first college opportunity, including SEC coaches who voted him 2017 pre-season All SEC.
Pappoe is a fine player, but I doubt he'll match Roquan's HS career. Maybe he'll eventually reach Roquan's level of success, but it's far from given that he'll be the kind of dominant defensive player that Roquan Smith became in college. Saying coaches will have to change their scheme for him is, like I said, premature.

What the heck is a breakout? Roquan was defensive player of the year as a junior and senior. He was an elite recruit because he kicked arse in high school.

Seems fair. But if we take that attitude for Pappoe we should also do that for our incoming recruits.

Football fans commonly overhype incoming recruits. It's uncommon to get the next AJ Green or Todd Gurley or Roquan Smith, even when you sign a top rated class. Sparq scores and HS stats and videos are fun to watch, but the intangibles and mental side are hard to measure. A couple of Sparq warrior linebackers from Roquan's class were Malik Jefferson and Josh Sweat. Every fan was drooling over those guys. Not to mention the recruiting services had them rated #8 and #10 recruits in the country (247 composite) They were drafted in the mid 3rd and late 4th rounds.
I was excited when we signed Roquan because he was so dominant and durable in HS. His senior year he had 24 tackles and 270 rushing yards in a game to win the region championship. But even those kind of stats rarely accurately forecast that a player will become an All-American, SEC defensive player of the year, Butkus Award winner and top 10 NFL draft pick.

While this statement is 100% logical and indicates rational thought, it aint gonna happen on the rant. EVERY 5* recruit is a big deal and the next big thing. That said I cant remember half the 5* kids recruited over the years nor where they went. Auburn should have fun w/ this one and other SEC teams can rejoice when they sign one. Of course we will

Brookwood is where all of the "permissive transfers" are going- but that is done before 9th grade. May be a year or two away, but they'll be the next gwinnett football power imo.

When I was in school at Shiloh, Parkview and Brookwood were the powers of Gwinnett County.
