He clearly wants to play in a pass happy spread offense. Oklahoma is probably the favorite here. Although I think his friendship with Fields is pretty clear. If Fields ends up starting we probably get him back

If Jake plays poorly and we lose to Florida, there will be a lot of pressure on Smart to start fields going forward- hope this doesnt happen but it is my opinion that it will

I think it's inevitable Fields overtakes Fromm at some point. It's just a question of when, and the answer is when Smart feels he gives us a better chance of winning. Apparently he's not there yet.

I really think kirby banked on Fromm playing at a high level all year, allowing us to bring Fields on slowly and maximize the chance of keeping both on the roster next year.

Fromm hasn't played at the expected level and so now there is rumbling. I sincerely think it's more that than Fields not being "ready".

Fields playing would help us with Haselwood, but that is a terrible reason to make a QB change.

It's hard for me to envision a scenario where Fields isn't the starter for 2019 (at least one that is a net good for Georgia). Last week simply accelerated the timeline. A second consecutive performance like that would functionally take us out of contention and force the issue immediately IMO.

From what I gather, the problem with Fields right now is that he’s good and he knows it which means in practice he’s making throws into coverages he shouldn’t be making because he thinks he can beat the secondary with his rocket launcher arm. Kirby won’t start him until he shows some discretion in his decision making. Doesn’t matter if you can put up highlights if you also risk turning the ball over every series

He has too much Stafford in him? Not necessarily a bad thing. How did you reach this conclusion?

I would welcome more aggressive quarterback play. Fromm is holding it way too long and not taking enough chances imo.

Also, that sounds similay to what was coming out of Tuscaloosa last year with Tua- time to let the dawgs loose!

Where are you hearing this? I tend to fall on the Fromm side until Kirby says otherwise, but I am curious if people who know are saying this, or is it scuttlebutt from other boards from people who are guessing.

Should I change the thread title to "Fromm vs. Fields, because we need more of these threads" or do y'all think we can keep those arguments in the other 15 threads about it?

If we're talking about the impact on Haselwood, fine. If not, let's try and keep that out of here.

I'm not an insider but I do know people.

Of course, this is all hearsay and the conclusion about why Fields isn't starting could be way off base (I only have a partial window into the situation). But the observation about his decision making has been echoed by a couple of folks I know. If Kirby isn't playing him, there's a good reason and it has nothing to do with playing favorites.

He’s a True Freshman. Coaches rarely trust true freshman. Fromm has the reigns on him most of the year last year. When Fields has had passing plays called he’s a one read and take off guy which is ok. Fromm is mostly a 1 or 2 read guy and get sacked so it’s pick your poison. Fromm was a 1 read QB all of last year as well so it’s pretty normal for QBs to come in and have that quick timer going off in their head. Fields is ultimately the more talented QB and his legs give us a dimension we don’t have but honestly if your expecting him to come in and light the world on fire like Tua who has 3 first round receivers running routes you are sorely mistaken. He will have struggles the same as Fromm but his legs do give the offense a fun dimension but against good defenses it won’t make much of a difference.

Back to the topic of the thread. Some rumbling and steam rising about Owen Pappoe possibly flipping. Anybody have anything?

Massive coaching turnover at auburn COULD send him elsewhere.

The one to watch is AU linebacker coach Travis Williams. I think as long as he is retained, Owen sticks there, even if they roll the Gus bus off the cliff.

I would be shocked if Malzahn is not retained after the season. Just way too much money to fire him.

And, I wouldn't expect Travis Williams to hold on to Pappoe, either. I mean, I think Williams is the biggest reason Pappoe chose Auburn, but if Auburn continues to lose, the realization that they will not be contedning for a title will sink in and the possibility of a coaching change and turmoil will begin to sway pappoe.

Not saying it will sway him towards us, but it very well could sway him away from Auburn. Auburn could easily lose Pappoe, Pickens and one or two other of their prize recruits. It was only a couple of months ago they were telling people they would have a top 5 class.

Certainly a reasonable way it could play out.

In my opinion, I think if Pappoe decommits, it's roughly 50/50 between us and Tennessee.
