Not exactly. These "experts" don't do "recruiting" for a living, they sell subscriptions and advertising to gullible fanatics for a living. That means they publish a large amount of unsubstantiated bull shite from unnamed sources. Plus, they manipulate the rankings, so that as top recruits commit and become less exciting, uncommitted recruits conveniently move up the ranks to keep the paying suckers on the hook. Never changes.

After spending decades studying trends, I'm definitely a hard core cynic. Pretty sure I'm just a bit ahead of the curve though and cynicism will be a lot more common in the near future.

And the way they sell those subscriptions is by providing information that is reliable and by making predictions that are correct. If they make up stories that are false and make predictions that are incorrect more often than not, they lose their credibility and, thus, subscribers. They have incentive to be as correct as possible.

I used to think that things worked that way too. Finally, I realized that people prefer pleasant lies to unpleasant reality, even when the future consequences of ignoring the facts are grim. As it pertains to recruiting services, selling hope with a nice facade of questionable data is extremely effective for long periods.
