You guys are overthinking this. I'd imagine that UGA has had more draft success in recent years than most of the teams ahead of us in the recruit rankings. Our biggest problem is that recruits saw us play last year, and opposing coaches are reminding them of how we looked. I would, and then ask them if UGA's talent has fallen to Nicholls State levels, or if maybe Smart just can't handle the job.

So Kirby now has to convince some kids, and parents, and HS coaches, that he knows what he's doing. I guarantee that none of those folks are sitting at home wracking their brain for why this is Mark Richt's fault. Kirby either gets it fixed, soon, or he should hire one of the Richt blamers as his agent. He'll need someone to explain why this wasn't his fault to prospective employers in a couple of years.

Which sucks because the previous coach created a poor situation that led to an 8-5 season. Hopefully smart can fix it, and the 2017 class should go along way to soon by 2018.

I thought when you got a good coach, he would get the existing players to play better and then be able to recruit even better players? Or was that some dude spilling dumbass on the www?

Not to get too tangental, but if you're still thinking about Mark Richt as it pertains to anything going on with this football program, you're a moron.

If Saban could bring his army of support staff he could have.

No, he didn't. We had poor performance after poor performance that had absolutely nothing to do with Richt. I'm all in for Smart, but crap. Don't try to pin an 8-5 year on Richt. If there was one thing that was obvious is poor performances against outclassed teams happened. That is on the current coaching staff.

We should have beaten Tennessee, Vanderbilt and GT. Those were certainly not on the previous coaching staff.

ETA
Clarification. I don't know if Richt would have won those games, either, but that is why it was time for him to go.

I mean, I think Smart was at blame for some of it of it, or even maybe the majority in some cases, but you can't say it had absolutely nothing to do with Richt.

He recruited >85% of the players that were on the team.

Caliber of roster has a ton to do with performance. Hate to break it to ya. Plus, its not like the type of losses that occurred in 2016 didn't happen to richt in the recent past.

Is this an official recruiting thread or a douchebag chit chat thread?

Do we need to start clean with a new one?

In the absence of commitments, pending likely commitments, or good rumors of commitments, the thread has been reduced to discussing what brought us to this state. Hopefully that won't be the case much longer.

You are making it a douchebag thread. We trying to talk some recruiting, so step aside or join in.

In those particular games we can. It was Smart that put Lorenzo Carter back on Tennessees Hail mary. Lorenzo Carter, a LB playing in the secondary because he was tall?
As for GT and Vanderbilt? Does somebody really want to argue they had better talent than us? It wasn't Richt, that put Chubb as QB and ran the smallest player on the team in a critical situation against Vanderbilt. I am not saying we should have gone undefeated. I am saying we should have done better than 8-5. The South Carolina, and Nichols games should not have been as close. And while the OL past recruiting can take a portion of the blame, our overall talent was MUCH better than the teams I mentioned.

Actually he is right. This is a topic that should be discussed in its own thread, not the recruiting thread.

If you would like we can take this to another thread as, deeprig requested. but be ready to argue that coaching decisions did not affect those games more than roster. Also, be ready to argue that Vandy, GT, Nicholls and South Carolina had better rosters.

As I said...that is why it was time for Richt to go. Are you arguing that it is time for Smart to go? because I am not. I still think he can turn this around.

Absolutely. We got a great class last year, and if we can get a solid class this year and another great class next year, we should be on our way.

I think the stage is being set for Mike Ridge to cause Smart to get fired. The signs are everywhere...
