Love the OL, QB, WR, OLB and DB commits and likely commits thusfar!!!

Sadly, no serious Nose and DT prospects in conversations this recruiting cycle.

Are we in on any DT types, or do we hope for help in the 2018 class?

I know we'll try to turn the Michigan commit back to the good guys, but are we even talking with ANY OTHER prospective 315 - 330 pound mean, tough, mobile DTs or Nose Guard guys?

Might only take one true DT this year

And if Big Trent stays healthy he locks down a spot for the next 2 or 3 years.

Yeah DT is kind of a thin spot this cycle. I'm hoping that Aubrey Solomon flips to us. I like the young guys that we have though. TT is a beast and I think Daquan Hawkins and Michail Carter are going to be studs as well.

Looking at the 247 consensus of the top 16 in GA (yep, I used 16 bc the 16th guy is ours, if he wasn't I'd stop at 15), this year:

-6 currently committed to UGA
-3 more are heavy leans to UGA
-3 more certainly ahve interest in us but could go either way

That's 12/16 that could very realistically end up at UGA. Even better is that unlike years past where it was our rivals dominating the state, of the ones not currently committed or heavy leans to us:

-2 are going way far away so it doesn't affect us
-only 1 committed to another SEC team (xavier mckinney to bama)

Great stuff staff.

For reference, in teh 02 class (which would parallel Smart's 17 class as far as timing), the top 15 in GA went:

-5 to UGA
-2 to stanford
-1 to Ms St
-1 to clemson
-3 to auburn
-2 to UF
-1 to duke

That doesn't even include Beal, who is in the FL rankings now that he's at IMG. (was #1 in GA)

Let's see how we stack up against other SEC players, again from the 247composite. This is as of right now with no speulcating/leans/silents/etc taken into account. Also note, the 247 rankings go by total points, not average per recruit, so a team with 30 verbals none of which are very great would have a much higher ranking than a class with 6 commits all of which were 5*

1. Bama- 15 verbals, 2/10/3 (5*/4*/3*), 92.37 Avg, 254.86 total
2. UGA- 13 verbals, 1/9/3, 92.58 Avg, 234.95 total
5. UT- 17 verbals, 0/2/15, 86.49 Avg, 194.21 total
7. AU- 11 verbals, 1/5/4, 89.08 Avg, 182.18 total
9. UF- 10 verbals, 0/5/5, 88.77 Avg, 163.98 total

As far as the east is concerned, we are totally dominating in recruiting RIGHT NOW. Same can be said for our west rival Auburn. Bama, as per usual, is out front and I'm sure they've quite a few gems left up their sleeve, but so far we're hanging strong with them and actually have a higher average rating.

Looking at the top 15 national classes, the only ones with a higher average rating per recruit are Ohio State (#1 class) and FSU (#10).

Just for fun, I used the class calculator to add Stevens, Swift, Webb, Carter, Thomas, and McBride. That would put us at 292.60 which of course would put us at the #1 class right now, but obviously doesn't factor in other recruits that will go to other schools. Bottom line though, we should be in for a damn fun NSD this year.

We'll have 3 beasts at DL: TT, Atkins and Hawkins coming back inside.

three true frosh: Rochester, Carter, Clark -- better hope they'll be ready to play a lot this year.

I'm thinking the rest of our current DLs are destined to be DEs: Young, Ledbetter, Barnett I assume are still 230 - 255 DEs for this year.

Marshall and Manac are coming in at weights closer to OLB than DE, but we can always hope one of these two or Young or Barnett start camp at 295 instead of 255.

I like John Atkins, but I think TT and Hawkins will be really special. I think Barnett is closer to that 270 range if I'm not mistaken.
