I've heard of red shirts and grey shirts- never heard of blue shirts.

Sounds like from the article that the 85 scholarship limit is dependent upon the start of fall camp. I.e. a player can get a scholarship after fall camp starts and not count towards the 85 for 2017.
(For the record, I think that the kicker's scholarship would count towards the 2017 85 limit... but the point is that early enrollees in December are not counting towards the 2017 Fall 85. And the number of scholarships on campus in January does not matter so long as it is under 85 by 2018 Fall classes).

When KS took this job he said he would use a scholly on a Punter bc "changing field pos is critical" This kid punts. He said that he feels like a FG kicker could be filled by a walk on spot. This kid also has the benefit of being a pretty accurate FG kicker. So why not offer? IMO its win/win

I got really busy at work today. Can someone give me a quick recap of the day? How'd we do? Any surprises? What was our final ranking?
And who's the punter/kicker we signed? Did he get a scholly? Was this outta left field?

his commitment to Saban will not count against Alabama's limit of 85 total scholarships. His future scholarship, if he indeed "blue shirts," could count against the 2018 recruiting class. Alabama is allowed under NCAA rules to "blue shirt" Brannon because Saban never took an in-home visit to the Brannons' home in Cullman, and Brannon never took an official visit, paid for by the university, to the University of Alabama.

Thanks Croot.
Seems like a fairly obscure situation.
