Looks like this staff doesn't have a clue what they're doing with kickers? Why in the world are you bringing in two kickers, when you already have one, and you're giving one scholarship instead of the guy who won you some games last year, regardless of his dad's outburst?

Not sure that's great journalism there just yet:

While Marvin’s announcement on Twitter said he had received a full scholarship, that was unconfirmed by UGA. He was not included in Georgia’s official list of 26 signees on Wednesday.

Looks like they ran with his comment and UGA has yet to confirm.

The one we're bringing in on scholarship is objectively better than our current one statistically.

I'm ok with it. Rodrigo did a decent job last year, but he is not an elite kicker. Shaky from 40+ and a. It of a liability on kick offs.

What did Blankenship do, other than help win a couple of games, to be treated in such a way? How many kickers do you need? I don't have a problem with bringing him on. I have a problem with awarding a guy with little eligibility left over a guy who helped the team last year. Blankenship should look elsewhere.

There's no guarantee this guy is an elite kicker either. Wofford is not UGA, even for kickers.

You have to be a troll plant. No way in hell you're a Dawgs fan.

It's very possible, but at this point, I'm not sure anyone here is really interested in hearing your criticisms.

1 reason: Competition. No such thing as a sure thing, and our kicking game needs help. If you can bring in PWOs and get them HOPE + Pell and now can cover food, and they want to do it, you'd be silly not to take advantage of it.

See above, as of right now, UGA has not confirmed the scholarship. The other thing to keep in mind here is that even if it *is* a scholarship, he's a 1 year guy so that spot opens back up. No matter your thoughts on Rodrigo, his numbers on 40 yard kicks or longer are not great - 4/7 with only one of those attempts coming at 50+, so 57% and only 75% on kicks of 30-39 yards.

Rodrigo's dad certainly didn't help things, and by putting it out there that it's scholarship or bust, it's very possible that we felt he wasn't to be counted on. If you look at it from this perspective, maybe Smart and Co are doing exactly what they have to in order to not be in the same position again.

Smart used the scholarship to convince the best player he could to be UGA's kicker. That's his job. Blankenship having helped the team last year is irrelevant. You make the best choice for the program moving forward.

Threats and ultimatums have a way of backfiring. Rodrigo was a star for fifteen minutes. Time's up.

Looks like Kirby and staff had more to worry about than getting late uncommitted players and flips

Similar to Watson...some kids appreciate when teams offer them early and sometimes reward the team by sticking to their committed even once others come calling

Is it just me, or does it seem like there isn't near the dropoff from 1 to 5 to 10 and on down like there normally is?

Alot of really strong classes in the top 20.

And look at Stanford..... player avg 92.44 right there with Bama, UGA, Oh State, but only took 14 so their overall ranking is only 14.

I don't know about y'all but I'm pumped with this class. Ameer Speed is going to be a special player for us. We kept Wyatt, which may turn out to be our most important recruit. Adding Stokes and Brini adds depth to a position that was lacking. Great closing job by Kirby and the staff.

DoT, get a 2018 thread stated ASAP

Guy on another board who has been pretty on top of things says that coaching staff has indicated he was not actually given a full scholarship.

This article says he'll be a blueshirt

I was rethinking my previous statement about Trent staying his senior year and I came up with a more realistic reason we only took one tackle. Maybe Big Ben is switching back to defense. With this class he might just have been buried in depth and since he never played on the Oline he might not have time to get it before we pour in more top of the line Olineman like we are doing.

This is in line with what he'd shared on the other board - and shared prior to that article getting posted (by about 15-20 minutes) fwiw. I'm still a little unclear on exactly how a blueshirt works... Not sure I understand how it's a benefit for us to bring him in for one year at the cost of a 2018 scholarship, but maybe missing something.
