Stole this from TideSaint on the Bama board.
Just moments after being announced as the next head coach at the University of Georgia, Kirby Smart was on the phone with a five-star prospect.
U.S. Army All-American Demetris Robertson (Savannah, Ga./Savannah Christian
"He just wanted to inform me that he's officially the head coach at Georgia," Robertson said. "He wants me to lead UGA'S class for the skill position guys."
The former Alabama commitment has built a close relationship with the former Crimson Tide defensive coordinator.
"I'm very excited," Robertson said of Smart's arrival at Georgia. "Coach Smart and I have a great relationship with each other. I trust his word on everything. We can talk about anything."
The next order of business for Smart will be hiring his coordinators.
"He said there is going to be a new offensive coordinator, but he didn't say anything about the defensive coordinator," Robertson said. "He said that's not final yet, but he will let me know in a few days or so."
Stanford has long been the leader for the No. 1 athlete in the country, according to 247Sports.
"Georgia is pretty high now," Robertson said. "I can't say an order, but they are up there for me. Kirby being at Georgia most definitely helps them. Just coming from where is coming from is a plus because he coached underneath Coach Nick Saban."
Robertson says he thinks he will meet Smart this week.
Interesting that he said we would have a new OC but nothing about the DC? Maybe we will keep Pruitt..

Have to admit, I broke into a little happy dance on this line.

Yeah I was really afraid he'd keep Shittenhymer.

Chidi Okonya, a 4* 6'6" DE from GA, has de-committed from Tennessee. Smart never offered him at Bama but Pruitt did at UGA. Wonder if we start blowing up his phone?

Obviously, I don't think any of us thought he would, but it's still nice to see it come from his mouth.

IOW, too smart for TenRC.

Yeah I read an AJC article where he said he's never made less than an A in his life. He also said he aspires to play in the NFL but also is really into politics and would like to be a Senator or Governor if he can't play football. I think he realized he didn't want to go to school where he is possibly more intelligent than any of his professors at age 18. Haha

Dude belongs at UGA, then. Get you a pre-Law degree and go to Harvard

A lot of great stuff from Rusty and Kipp on 247. The biggest nugget was that although they think Florida still has a shot, things have swung back in UGA's favor "in a major way" over the last couple days for Eason. Kirby has made no mistake about letting him know how important he is.
ETA - also said he (Rusty) has had a crazy number of high school coaches reaching out to him to tell him how highly they think of Kirby. Calling without first getting a call from Rusty. I think we might see our first real attempts at locking down the state of GA with Kirby at the helm. Everyone absolutely loves this guy.

I doubt we go after Okonya

IIRC I think he's kind of a tweener in our defense (or at least just not regarded enough to beat out other guys we want for the spot)

I doubt our board changes much from who we've already been recruiting with the exception of a few guys KS was recruiting at Alabama. Especially on defense.

I guess that's why Smart didn't offer him at Bama? I haven't seen any film of him..just saw he's 6'6" and 240lbs already and figured he'd be a nice Floyd/ZoCarter type..

He's not that kind of athlete. UT wouldn't have cut him if he was

If we're staying a 3-4 base that is in Nickel most of the time, then no I doubt the board changes.

I'm still not ruling out a full blown melt, but let's say Robertson, Nauta, Eason, Big Ben, Brown all come. Where do we think our class ranks?

Florida has an in-home with the Eason's on wednesday and the insiders are peddling that it's to convince his parents to get on board with his flip. If he flips we have nothing at QB at the moment. That being said, I trust our insiders and hopefully they are right on this one.
