I'll be thrilled if we make the tournament but I'd be just as happy with hosting in the NIT where we could more likely extend the season a bit longer

my guess is that we lose to south carolina in nashville and host 1 game in the NIT, win, then lose next round

my second guess is that we lose to kentucky in nashville and are shown on tv on selection sunday not getting a bid

I wouldnt look past Mississippi State. Ben Howland has them playing pretty well finally this year. In the past couple of weeks, they've beaten Vandy, @ Alabama, and South Carolina. Plus they lost by two at Texas A&M.

Thursday night will definitely be a tough game. MSU has been much improved since we played them, their 2 star freshmen are starting to impress and they have 2 good seniors trying to extend their careers. Gonna be a dog fight.

I'd take this all day every day, coupled with a win at home in the NIT. At this point we need to get more and more experience and extend the season. I'd love to get that experience in the tourney but I thinkit's safe to say it's pretty doubtful at this point

I'd love to make the dance. To me losing the first game in the NCAA tournament is far superior to winning the NIT.

If we get two wins in Nashville I think we have a chance to sneak in, but would probably get left out.

Every little bit with RPI matters now. Tonight we need Oakland to beat Wright State and Chattanooga to beat ETSU.

Winning the NIT proves you are a good team. Low seed and loss in the dance doesn't.

I go back and forth on that whole topic.

I know probably 90% of people always say it's better to lose game 1 in the big dance than make the finals of the NIT. I don't know how I feel honestly.

For personal and selfish reasons, I guess I'd take the NIT route because it gives your guys more games, keeps you on TV longer, gives the non-seniors more experience heading into next year, etc. But the exposure of making the big tourney, plus having that extra feather in your cap in the media guide (X number of tourney appearances) is nice too.

We dont' have a chance in hell of making it past the sweet 16 and that's saying that we'd have to probably play our A+ game to even get there. I do think we coudl make a run in the NIT though. Idk.

At this point, game experience is going to benefit the team more than anything. While making the tournament would be nice, you're still getting to face quality competition in the NIT and for potentially longer. Only way I want to make the tournament is if we can have a shot in hell at actually winning a game and, given how low our seeding would be, I doubt we have a shot in hell.

I still think there's a lot to be said for that feeling of playing in the NCAA tournament. Being a part of march madness.

For sure. Aside from your UK/Kansas/Duke/UNCs of the world whose goals are always final 4 or bust..just about every other of the 300+ programs' goal every preseason is to make the dance.

Take last year for instance. We drew a ridiculously tough first round game and realistically didn't have much of a chance to go very far. But we were still on every bracket, analysts were talking about us unlike they would in the NIT, and the entire country saw us take on a semi-elite basketball program and play them pretty damn tough. Lots of eyeballs on UGA basketball that day.

You always want to make the NCAA tournament over the NIT, no matter the seed or eventual result.

You get more meaningful exposure from a round 1 loss than if you win the whole NIT.

Not to mention if we make it this year, it will be the first four game and we will be on an unopposed national TV game

There's certainly something to be said for the experience, I suppose. And I'm not saying I'd prefer an NIT invite over one from the tournament; if we get invited to the dance we go. Period. But if it comes down to us only going to the NIT then I'm plenty alright with that as it gives us a better chance at gaining more game experience against quality opponents with do-or-die pressure

This is true and I think the most advantageous route if we can swing it

Either way, I'm taking off work on Thursday 3/17 and will be getting extremely drunk and making aggressive, ill advised bets.

id say that winning the NIT is better than losing a first four game.

losing a round of 64 game is better.
