Since nelson decommitted are we going afteri Mario alford from gmc?

Not really sure but I'd say it's a safe bet that we will reconsider offering him a scholly. I think they were hoping to land a solid JUCO Corner with a bit more experience because of our lack of depth after this season.

I think Riyahd Jones and Brendan Langley will probably be our first options.

Doubt we get Alford at this point. He is committed to Arizona as a RB which is his preferred position.

What's your opinion on Jones? Haven't heard much about him. And IMO, Fox is the only way we get Langley. I don't see it happening but stranger things have happened.

Does Nelson leaving mean that MM26 will be a CB next year?
Posted on 11/14/12 at 6:25 am to Gotta have DeZeier
I think MM26 stays at receiver. We tried that and he has been much more effective at receiver.
Apparently Mackenzie Alexander (4-5* cb from Florida) has reached out to our coaches. If the interest is legit, we should let Langley go to USC and go full bore after Alexander. Kid's a stud.

Langley is very interested in playing both Football and Basketball in college. Fox has talked to him numerous times about playing both at UGA and it really piqued his interest. It also helps that we have Mauger.
Jones is a pretty good JUCO prospect but he's not on Nelson's level. He was set to go to UK out of high school, I believe, but had to go JUCO. He wouldn't be a bad pick up but I'm not sure he'll be an immediate impact guy like Nelson.
If Alexander really has reached out to UGA coaches then I agree that he should jump up to #1 on our DB board at this point. I think Tunsil, Adams, and Alexander would be our top 3 targets left.

Anyone care to explain how he announced it? I read where crispy said he didn't have a Georgia hat on the table. Sorry, I had a flag football game during his announcement. TIA

Video of his announcement. Seems like a good kid, very well spoken.
Pulled a UGA hat out from under the table.

Did we push away Nelson or drop the ball??? AJC article... LINK

How did things sour between UGA and Nelson? Apparently, UGA had very little to do with Nelson after he committed, according to his coach.
“He didn’t communicate very much with the DC at Georgia (defensive coordinator Todd Grantham),” Zepeda said. “The only coach that he was communicating with was (UGA defensive backs coach Scott Lakatos). The relationship between the DC coach and Steven wasn’t there.
“When Steven went on an unofficial to Georgia last summer, he just briefly spoke with the staff. He didn’t really get to sit down with them like he wanted to, other than Coach Lakatos.
“You know it was the ‘relationship factor’ between Steven and Georgia.

While there are always two sides to each story, sounds like we might have dropped the ball on that one...

A.J does seem like a good kid liked his film he runs hard. What does this mean for Kamara?
Posted on 11/14/12 at 10:55 am to socrow
I don't think it affects him as much as people think. He's a different type of back than Turman and he knows that. Plus, we're selling him to the fact that we will line him up in different positions on the field i.e. in the backfield, slot, etc. Bama is our only threat but I think we land him. He knows there is solid competition at both schools.

Here's what Kamara should looks at:
UGA Depth
Gurley (Soph)
Marshall (Soph)
Malcome (RS Jr)
Turman (Fr)
Bama Depth
Yeldon (Soph)
Lacy (Sr)
Hart (RS Soph)
Drake (Soph)
Tenpenny (Fr)
Jones (Fr)
Henry (Fr) [for at least one year]
Kamara still has a better chance to play early at UGA.

Jaquay Williams will be on an official visit to Athens for the Georgia Tech game.

If his scores are up he could enroll in January...which would be big.

One of the top commitments to Georgia's 2013 class had his high school career ended not on the football field but in a meeting room.
Tramel Terry's Goose Creek (S.C.) High School team, undefeated, top-ranked in the state and considered one of the best prep teams in the country, was abruptly disqualified from the playoffs this week when it was learned the team had played an ineligible player, according to the Charleston Post & Courier and numerous other media outlets in the state of South Carolina.
An appeal Wednesday evening was unsuccessful, ending Goose Creek's season after one playoff victory.
Details of this still being fleshed out in South Carolina. But per this story and others, it is being reported the ineligible player transferred from another school and had used up his eligibility as a senior and that the error reportedly was discovered this week.
While this decision technically was following the rules, the timing and cruelty of this -- from a distance -- seems extreme. If nothing else, it was heartbreaking to follow Terry's Twitter feed Wednesday in the hours before and after the appeal was denied ...
