Why is there so much stock being put into the Chavis hire?

I see a lot of posters (here and other places) saying that we should be patient, Sumlin got Chavis last year. But didn't Chavis fall into Sumlin's lap? As far as I've read, he reached out to A&M when things with LSU went sour.

And post a Heisman and 11 win season, Fat Kevin's OC hire was a former HS coach that had never called plays. His next OC hire was a man that had never called plays and ruined Geno Smith.

Not sure why there's any optimism that Sumlin will make a good hire.

They're convinced the hire will be made for him.

He has Foster lined up until Chief came. He was going to make a monster hire regardless.

Art Briles was a former HS coach who had never called plays.

I get your point, but don't compare Art Briles to Clarence McKinney

Even if you completely discount the Chavis hire, which seems to be done to fit your agenda, he still has the Holgorsen and Kliff hires.

2 of the best offensive minds in the entire nation. Both on his resume.

There is no middle ground with a lot of the posters now. They see Sumlin as the worst coach ever now. He will get no credit for a single thing and be blamed for everything.
