With a kid from this far away the key is going to be getting him back on campus in the fall since he has used the official already

There wasn’t much more than 247 but it definitely seems like we’re in the running. He doesn’t have any other officials set up currently. I have no idea who else is really in it with him. I kind of like our chances vs a Penn State or Michigan even though Penn State is much closer to home. My worry is he will warm to playing in the south then end up at Bama or FSU

Four-star teammates Shepherd and Demas take in Texas A&M, Texas - Brian Perroni

Texas A&M played host to Javonne Shepherd and Demond Demas on Friday and then the pair made it to Texas for the spring game on Saturday.

Though spring football is over, Texas A&M is still playing host to unofficial visitors. On Friday, the Aggies had two of its top targets on campus in Houston North Forest teammates Javonne Shepherd and Demond Demas.

Shephard, a four-star class of 2019 offensive tackle, said he and Demas, a national top-50 wide receiver in the class of 2020, decided to make the short trip to College Station.

"It was something we had planned for a little while," the 6-foot-6, 319-pound Shepherd said. "We wanted to go up there and just hang out. It was that long of a visit but we got to talk to the coaches."

Shepherd has built a good relationship with A&M offensive line coach Jim Turner.

"Coach Turner, I got to talk to him while I was there," he said. "I like talking to him. We didn't talk about anything too serious. We were just catching up. I feel comfortable up there."

A day after the trip to Aggieland, Shepherd and Demas made it to Austin to check out the Texas spring game.

"It was good," Shepherd said. "I got a chance to watch the offensive line really closely. We were in the end zone so we could see everything going on. I like the way their line plays. I could see myself fitting in there."

Shepherd says he spoke with both schools about setting up official visits but he does not have anything penciled in just yet. However, he knows which programs will receive his five allotted visits.

"We talked about them but I don't know when I'm going to take them," he said of his officials. "I don't know if they will be this summer or in the fall. I'm going to visit UT, A&M, Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss. Those are the five schools I'm going to visit."

As for his commitment timeline, Shepherd has pushed it back.

"At first, it was going to be in June," he said. "I switched it, though. I don't know when I am going to commit now. I'm just being really patient with the whole process."

The Crystal Ball for Shepherd has four of six predictions for A&M and one for Texas. Demas' Crystal Ball has two predictions for A&M and one for Texas

it’s quiet because herman is getting out-performed by our rivals at every stage of the recruiting game and no progress is being made, no power moves are being executed, and no recruits are committing. I am so sick of this minor league bullshite.

Any chance of a public verbal commitment today or just shh silent commits?

No commits, just middle fingers

Where are you guys getting this "no visit" policy of Jimbo's? Is that being reported on any Aggie site? Asking because I haven't come across that.

The UT sites talk about it. The aggy sites like to tell their subs that it's just because the kids are just 100% true blue ags.

We've had a decent hit rate on some of our 3 star guys from the past few classes. Guys like LJH, Roach, Hager, Omenihu were all 3 stars and have turned key players going into this next year. If this staff can evaluate as well as Strong (which they have shown and I would argue are even better at), we're going to be fine regardless of missing out on a few key players this year.

Man this is so sad and great at the same time. This is the acceptance phase of mediocrity

Also this from Shea Dixon on LSU's board on 247 regarding Ishmael Sopsher's recruitment:

quote:

Texas A&M is also in this. Lots of teams trying to nab him right now. This will be the most followed recruitment in the state this process IMO simply because I think it could go a number of ways and teams press hard until the final day.

Some poster responses to Dixon's comment about A&M:

quote:

The fact Texas A&M is even a small threat shows why Orgeron should have never been given the Head Coach position. Let’s be real even with Fisher A&M is not a top defensive team. The longer Orgeron is here the farther we continue to fall as a program.

This team will be lucky to win 6 games. Personally, I hope it happens just so we can have a regime change, from Aleva down. I WILL NOT root against LSU, but change is much needed, and it won’t happen unless we crash and burn

I would feel the exact same way if I were him.

If LSU does go 6-6, would they be able to clean house?

They're cleaning house unless they win 10 games and even then they might do it. That situation is unimaginably toxic

He is working on scheduling a summer visit around the Opening since it in Frisco this year. Also he says another visit for a game isn’t out of the question.

Says Penn St will be tough to beat out

It’s also verrrrrry pricey.

8.5 M to buyout Ed
2.0 M to buyout Joe
7.5 M to buyout Dave

That’s 18 M before they spend a cent hiring someone else. At a minimum their HC is going to make 5 M. Their AD a little more and a new DC at least 1 M.

Do they have 25 M for 2019? I’m thinking no.

They only way the avoid that is to promote Dave (potential huge failure) or find a HC that wants to work with Dave (could eliminate several candidates).

they arent firing aranda on top of it all. hes either getting the gig, likely since hes been named the HCIW, or they are bringing someone in who will keep him on, which may somewhat limit those interested in the job but i doubt it will have too much of an adverse effect. i dont think theres a more well respected DC in college football right now

Maybe, but paying a DC that much means the HC is going to want big money or they’re going to have to reach to keep it within a lower budget.

after the shite storm that just rained down on that AD, they are going to pay big money if they have to IMO
