Here's the worst case scenario.

1. Sumlin stops recruiting altogether, daring Sharp to fire him.

2. He is fired AFTER signing day, THEN signs with an NFL team, collecting both his buyout and his NFL paycheck.

It's not a rumor he's been shopping himself. That was a rumor a month ago, it's not now. It's been confirmed by every insider, including chief czar of sunshine Bully Liucci on public radio.

Oh I know. My post from last night was not entirely in jest. It was the talk of a certain football equipment provider's Christmas party that he was going to the Eagles.

A few days ago the Eagles fired Chip Kelley, a coach who came directly from the college ranks into the NFL. He had no previous NFL experience.

I am really struggling to comprehend why they would fire Chip to clear the way to bring in Sumlin. Chip seemed to have a problem dealing with pro players. Sumlin has no experience with that, either.

To put this in a non-A&M perspective, what would you say if someone told you they had a source linking say, Gus Malzahn, to the Eagles? Would seem pretty farfetched, right?

I'm not buying it. I've not read any NFL writers mentioning Sumlin as a candidate for an NFL post.

I suspect Sumlin will return with a new OC.

Yeah I'd definitely take that rumor for what it's worth, which is not much.

But the Chip Kelly comparison you make isn't entirely apples to apples.

Chip failed in the "managing pro players" department because he is a "dictator", to quote a player.

Sumlin is the opposite - a hands-off guy who failed in the "managing college players" department because he expected them to be professionals who could handle their own shite, which they're not and they can't.

Isn't that what we said about Sherman?

Sherman had an NFL approach to player-personnel management and attempted to treat them like men who could handle their own shite, but that was tempered somewhat by his being a more hands-on coach when it came to coaching actual football. Plus, he is a nice person who genuinely cared about player welfare, and while stern, did act in their best interests and attemp to provide guidance - Jorvorskie credits him with his life, basically. Sumlin's JUST the CEO.

Sherman's fatal flaw was his pride. He refused to hire an OC after the AD demanded that he do so and called his own plays on the way to a 6-6 season, where it was obvious that calling his own plays made it so he couldn't see the forest for the trees in terms of strategy and game management. Because the failure of that season resulted from a refusal to follow orders, he got fired, hard.

Sherman's fatal flaw was defensive depth/conditioning. He didn't recruit defense well enough to have the depth to stand up for 60 minutes.

Our starting 22 was top-5 in the country in 2011. The problem was our next 22 were awful. We collapsed because our starters couldn't be effectively spelled.

Spoke to my buddy again. Some notes from team/locker room

1. Everyone really rallied around Hubenak pre and post game. Felt his performance was about as good as possible.

2. Speedy will not be with the program next year. Not sure if it is grades or transfer but that is the rumblings. From all accounts, the guy is wild and people are surprised hes lasted in college this long.

3. There is a lot of anger directly towards Kevin Sumlin. He barely even addressed the team after the game.

4. The entire coaching staff is MIA over last 2 days.

5. Have no clue as to coaching staff changes (I do know that Spav will be gone) but there is a lot of uncertainty right now which no one is communicating about. Morale is low.

6. Several players are just glad the season is over and now relaxing with family.

Everything I've heard is that Sumlin's actions indicate he has one foot out the door. He has been detached the last month.

The issue from his perspective is that he knows if we fire him, it will be with cause and his career is effectively over, cause there is some shite in his closet. We want to avoid the court battle that would ensue and are kinda hoping he lands an NFL job so we can put a nice public face on a terrible back room situation.

So now we are awkwardly waiting.

Me too, Sarge. Roger's take on things makes sense of a number of oddities.

I'm pretty much on board with canning him regardless and going scorched earth. Sumlin is not a good person, the most public evidence being how he threw KA under the bus to avoid answering tough questions. He has abused his position here and some pretty crazy stuff will come out if he is fired as I said weeks ago.

Sumlin better hire a new OC within a few days. If it's Meacham, then that's great.

If Sumlin somehow later lands a NFL job, of which I am skeptical, then so be it. Promoting Chavis or Meacham to the head coach position would be options for us, if we don't want to go through a head coach search at that late of a date.

Rojo and a guy on 247 just posted Sumlin is gone. I haven't heard anything definitive either way.

Well, he's the one that claimed that Spurrier will be OC...

He nailed the Chavis hire, even before me and Smokin Aces did. I didn't post about Chavis until a couple days before it became public, Rojo posted it about a week before.

Then again, he said Spurrier would be our new OC.
