Getting ready for work this morning the commercials for Duke v UNC were on ESPN. It made me wonder how other people view these rivalries. Do you look at the teams in terms of our own rivalry? Do you relate to one of the schools as more like us and if so, do you pull for that school over the other because of the relative relationship? I'd love to hear your thought on specific rivalries that matter to you.

If this needs to be in OT please move the thread as you see fit!

Only other college rivalry that I truly care about is Michigan/ohio (Mom's a Wolverine alum).

Other than that, I generally just think "huh, that'll be an intense game," and keep on keepin' on. Rarely really identify with one or the other or root for one over the other, with the exception of rooting for OU over t.u. in the RRS or something.

I love watching the tcu - tu rivalry. Sold-out stadiums on Thanksgiving. High-stakes. Crazy atmosphere. It's insane.

Don't they, though? It's just one game on the schedule.

I think beaver one time told me that he wouldn't even come close to enjoying auburns season as much as he does if auburn didn't play georgia or bama and he wasn't bullshitting. I just have no idea how people think that way

It's ingrained into southerners. We are taught at a young age all about football and who we are supposed to hate and when you have a competitive series with the one you hate it makes things fun.

I pretty much always choose a side to pull for in rivalries, but I definitely will flip-flop, since I have no real reason to support a team.

A lot of time I pull for the team full of tradition that isn't quite as good as the rival in my experience.

Texas A&M and Tottenham Hotspur are two big examples of this.

I mean I get that, but it's not like I can't enjoy a&m football just because we don't play a rivalry game

Which is awesome. It guarantees Bama never pulls a tu. They would NEVR accept a situation where they lost two of their three biggest rivalries, no matter how much money they make.

Honest answer? What a snoozer.

As a matter of fact, most basketball rivalries are unappealing to me. To take it up a notch, most football rivalries that don't have national championship implications or aren't regional do not concern me.

This.
Cal-Stanford, FSU-Mismi, BYU-Utah, etc. ... I have no more interest in those games than I do for any other non-Aggie game.

I'm not a basketball fan at all. Just happened to be the first thing I saw this morning.
I don't have any other Football rivalry I care about specifically either. I was thinking more as a casual observer. I think WCA mentioned something along these lines about ucla and usc on signing day. Made me wonder if other people thought like this.

Oh and... Chelsea > Spurs
