WTF? That had better not be the "familiar" opponent Jason Cook was pimping a while back.

and you just know this has got to be driving Houston Cougars fans nuts.

this would have to be on Sept 13 unless A&M drops SMU on the 20th.

I'm still hoping we drop SMU or Lamar (first preference is to drop Lamar). Horrible planning to play twice in DFW in the same year though.

So 2014 OOC is:

@ SMU
ULM
Lamar
Rice

wow.

hey, if ULM beats Arky State then we'll have two bowl teams on that schedule

if SMU somehow upsets Cincy we'll have a good chance of having 3 bowl teams as they also have USF and UConn left.

Cincinnati and Miami are out for 2014-2015

The Miami Hurricanes and the Cincinnati Bearcats have scheduled a home-and-home football series for 2014 and 2015, UC director of athletics Whit Babcock officially announced today. Miami has also announced the series.

Miami will host the first game of the series at Sun Life Stadium on Oct. 11, 2014. In the second and final game of the series, the Hurricanes will travel to face the Bearcats at newly renovated Nippert Stadium on Oct. 3, 2015.

Miami would have been a great home opener for 2015.

At this point you can't help but assume that we are avoiding any BCS type of OOC opponent.

I just want the SEC to decide 9 games or not. Then we can start to lock in better ooc opponents

I believe they won't decide that until spring 2014 at the earliest. Because the sides were so far apart, they went away from this past spring meetings and decided to do a 2-year study on the impacts of 8 vs 9 games. They'll officially vote on it in spring 2014 for the 2016 season and beyond.

But that's a lame excuse as to why we can't schedule better. We can put in 3 opponents and if we stick at 8 then we have a year and a half to fill it or in a pinch just buy the 4th game for a season. Clearly we haven't had a problem scheduling UTEP, UNM, Rice, and ULM as buy games on short notice.

I hope we don't go to 9.

IMO that will only increase the odds our OOC is shite b/c athletic departments will hide behind a "OHHHH our conference slate is soooooo demanding and we need to make sure we have at least 7 home games every year or we go bankrupt" bullshite mantra.

If we go to 9 we can kiss cool home and homes against power 5 schools goodbye and say hello to 1 off games held at pro stadiums in faux "Classic Kickoff" type events.

I also only think the Big 10 is partly pushing the 9 games so hard b/c they know their conference is rotting from within and want one less game they could potentially lose to a non power conference team.

An extra game against teams like Purdue, Illinois, or Indiana really isn't any more difficult than a game against an SMU, Rice, or La Tech.

They can pretend they want 9 games for a tougher SOS but its really just a BS line meant to hide the fact that population shifts have sapped a good chunk of the talent from that part of the country.

pretty much agree with all this

I'd like to see the SEC just mandate 9 (preferably 10) P5 games per year and no FCS games. Do that and I'm ecstatic. I'd like to play teams outside the conference now and then.

That OOC is a shitshow, probably even worse than this year's. This will kill us in the computer polls again next year.

The GBH guys seem to be holding onto the "Currently scheduled to play..." language regarding the game @ SMU and hoping that means the game can still be swapped with a home game. Going to DFW on consecutive weekends really does seem mindless.

Lamar is just...

Wins: Lamar, Rice, @SMU, Arkansas, @Mississippi State, Ole Miss

Tossups: @South Carolina, @Alabama, LSU, Missouri

Likely Losses: @Auburn

Anywhere between 8-4 (4-4) and 11-1 (7-1)

And you are being kind in your description. It just makes you wonder how much Hyman has fricked up as an AD to schedule this abortion. Seriously.

Meh. I guess I'm excited but I was hoping that would be a marquee game at Kyle.

yeah, I'd prefer a home/home but I think this is a hedge to give us a bit more time for opening weekend at new Kyle. Not sure if it's in this thread or the other but RC broke down how few options we had for Sep 5 anyway.

I'll be interested to see if Sep 12 we have a real opponent

All I know is Rice and ASU had better not be the "name program" Aggies are "familiar with" that Jason Cook was talking about.

Gabe Bock specifically asked him about the 2014 OOC schedule and if there would be BCS caliber opponents.

and as much as I like saying SMU is technically BCS now, they sure as shite better not be what he meant.
