Either way it’s a pretty gay guessing game they’re playing on Texags

I'm thinking we blew this. We had a verbal from Elko that just fell through, and we are scrambling right now.. That's my prediction.
ETA: Can it really be bigger than Elko? I guess Foster, but that sounds like Chavis 2.0 to me.

That’s silly, no one other than texAg posters have said Elko
Our new DC is coaching in a bowl game on Jan 1st so we just have to wait until then
This has been the story from the beginning right?

Absolutely no way. As I said in a previous post, Elko fit the Jimbo philosophy but there was absolutely nothing out there to suggest he had been contacted other than people doing guesswork (just like Mel Tucker). That was all speculation and I’m quite confident THamm is making shite up as are most of them.
Liucci knows who the target it and is sitting on the name patiently like a good dog.
I am revising my list of names, although I will say the Bama duo still seems like a real possibility no matter what Liucci said about playoff teams. Based on the recent hire, I don’t see how you can rule out Schiano either. And as I said before, Michigan State and Michigan DCs fit the mold and would be possible considerations. I’m also putting Aranda back into my list of people to watch. One out of left field possibility could be Wisconsin’s DC. He’s at his alma matta but money talks. And he’s not a favorite but I’ve had Manny Diaz on my list of possible hires since day one.

The Wisconsin DC has only two years experience coaching. Their defense play is not due to him, it's due to the AD running their football program.
I was not even considering Schiano, but I'm more impressed after looking into his record. Ohio State's defense is ranked in the top 10 this year. Additionally, a widely recognized recruiting news site lists Schiano has a top 5 recruiter nationally.

Nice summary
The only things we know and have actually been told
1. It’s a very impressive get if we land him
2. The deal is agreed upon by all parties but the contract isn’t signed and can’t be until after bowl game for contractual reasons
3. Looch knows and has knowledge of the primary target and the target hasn’t changed
In my opinion it has to be someone coaching on New Year’s Day

I have a hard time believing Schiano leaves tOSU for CS unless wemo eywhipped the $h!t out of him. But hey. Jimbo Fisher.

So I know BAS and all but wouldn't Schiano be asking for negative recruiting. I mean people revolted to get him to not take the Tennessee job. Gotta feel like Herman, Riley, Coach O would be planting seeds that it was justified for Tennessee fans to be that angry.

I would have a difficult time with Schiano. The charges that cost him the Vols job came out over the last year...and let’s be honest ... they were brought to light what 6 weeks ago. So you have to wonder if he would still be a great recruiter or a huge negative on our recruiting.

Schiano is a monster recruiter. He would be a statement hire if we hired him. I don't know why he would leave, but with tOSU believed to be hiring Grinch, it just doesn't make sense. Maybe Urban is a little bitch who didn't like Schiano leaving and then coming back? I have a really hard time seeing Grinch leaving for the 10th assistant position; he must think he's getting the DC job or at least Co-DC. Would only make sense if Urban knew Schiano was leaving or if Urban was stupidly forcing Schiano out.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this but I don't want him. Give me someone who brings in talent any day of the week. That is not Foster's specialty. He can recruit, but he isn't well-known as an elite recruiter like other guys such as Schiano, Steele, Aranda, or even Elko. We have a massive talent gap on defense - MASSIVE - between us and our divisional competitors.
Just look at the 2017 talent rankings.
https://247sports.com/Season/2017-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite
Every team in our division is in the top 25.
1. Bama - Avg. Rating 93.33 (18-5*, 51-4*)
--- then look at the large talent drop ---
6. LSU - Avg. 90.60 (4-5*, 48-4*)
8. Auburn - Avg. 89.82 (4-5*, 41-4*)
--- then look at the large talent drop ---
15. A&M - Avg. 87.89 (3-5*, 29-4*)
18. Ole Miss - Avg. 87.46 (3-5*, 24-4*)
22. Arkansas - Avg. 86.42 (1-5*, 21-4*)
25. Miss State - Avg. 85.47 (1-5*, 15-4*)
Our talent levels are clearly in the tier with Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Miss State and a definite tier below that of Auburn and LSU (who can compete with Bama with the right mix of talent). And our situation is even worse when you look at our talent, which has only until recently been at skill player positions as opposed to on the offensive and defensive lines and on the defensive side of the ball.
Until we can bridge the gap between A&M's talent and the talent on LSU and Auburn, we will never truly compete in the league. Even in years where we can beat Bama, like in 2012, we are going to get smashed by a more talented team at some point in the season. We just can't expect to be able to have a Bama killer on the team and win the conference. There are other elite teams that will beat us and every team in our division has brand new coaches and top 25 talent. Each one could beat Bama on any given day with the right coaching.
Jimbo recognizes this talent gap and is making hires accordingly. He has a plan and it is to recruit. We have never truly had a team full of elite talent in college station, and I for one think that is the single reason we can't get over the hump. There is a huge difference between having a dynamic team for one year, ala 2012, as opposed to winning 10 games a year for a decade and competing for a conference championship.
