I'm thinking none of these hacks know a damn thing. And why would they? It's a new regime and the boosters are desperate to play along with Jimbo in order to have a winning program. Unfortunately, none of the hacks at TexAgs, 247, or Taylor Hamm's super-duper Facebook group will ever admit that. They'll just give you obscure clues in order to make you believe they know something.
Pretty much agree with all of this. A lot of interest in the program now with the coaching change and they all are trying to increase their subscriber base so they don’t want to seem not in the loop. I doubt anybody knows much of anything but they don’t want to admit it.
It’s drug on for so long I’ve kinda lost interest in it, I trust Fisher to make a good hire as we are giving him a large budget to work with so I’ll get more interested again once it’s announced.

Edit I don't know why I had Josh.
Speaking of Josh, y'all shouldn't sleep on Tosh Lupoi.

Building on this, what if Lupoi and Derrick Ansley were coming over as a packaged deal to be some sort of Co-DCs?

Want
The amount of talent we would get would be insane

Well hold on to your butt. I don't know anything new but just have a feeling.
Look at what Saban did with UTSAs DC. Maybe that was not as a result of him passing over someone, but as a result of him being told he was losing two assistants after the playoff? I don't know but that seems logical. Or maybe this all came about because Saban passed over Lupoi as DC?

I think that is a whole lot more likely than Venables. And I would like it a lot more than Elko. Fisher pulled Pruitt out from under Smart at Bama. Although Pruitt wasn’t seemingly about to get promoted to DC.
From their standpoint they get a chance to actually run the defense instead of carry out everything for Saban

Well here is what I know.
- Jimbo considered Robinson for the DC at FSU and generally liked him. I think he was a little concerned at our lack of talent and depth on the defensive side at certain points (though better than in years past) and wanted to hire an elite recruiter. Robinson was a legit choice and would come here, but just not the top pick.
- Bud Foster was a smoke screen. He doesn't fit the mold of the Saban philosophy and there are younger more motivated guys out there who can recruit significantly better.
- Venables is not in play at all. The only thing that could even create a hint of that possibility would be if his son did not sign with Clemson, which is supposed to happen this week.
- Elko is a total mystery. I don't even know if he was contacted. He fits the mold and he is a very good recruiter, so it's extremely hard to rule him out. He had to be considered, as he was on staff with Jimbo as a GA at LSU. But if it is Elko, everyone is keeping it very tight lipped.
- It was hinted to us and I was told at the start to expect Jimbo would first try to raid Alabama or UGA for a coordInator. Everyone assumed this was Mel Tucker, but that seemed unlikely. I was told not the sleep on Alabama's assistants, and based on the clues provided by Liucci I included Lupoi/Ansley in my list.
Now, all of a sudden, I see Jorts has mentioned Lupoi over 10 times on TA the same night that Billy confirms Bud Foster is not the guy.
Then add in Saban's hiring of an outside DC, and it does create a reasonable basis for some speculation.
I'm not saying, but I'm just saying. If Fisher's biggest concern is getting defensive talent here, Lupoi would close that gap the quickest. That would be a recruiting dream scenario.
I think we took a swing at Venables, and that Jimbo had either Elko or Lupoi/Ansley as his number two with Robinson at backup.

If it is Lupoi, this would be the first time we hire an up and comer in a very long time. Who was the last DC we hired to who didn't come with experience?
Bob Davie, Tommy Tubberville, Phil Bennett, Mike Hankwitz, Carl Torbush, Gary Darnell, Joe Kines, Tim DeRuyter, Mark Snyder, and John Chavis all had some sort of DC experience in their past.

And he brings 2 five stars per class on his own.

I like that Aranda isn't on that list, stay the frick away Aggie
I like Robinson and Elko on that list.
Venables will leave ASAP for a HC role, I wouldn't pay him a lot to kiss me and leave.
Diaz is decent, can recruit, I think he has grown a lot as a coach.
Lupoi would be good too, hell they are all good names on the list.
Barnett is questionable for me personally. I am sure he is a great coach, but I don't like coaches who have played 5+ years in the NFL. That is a lot of shots to the head, it HAS to have an effect on the old thinking sponge. Yes, that is my only qualm but it is serious to me lol.

He can persOnally account for two 5* defensive recruits per class. He’s shady but gets results.

Looks like a no to Venables and Robinson

It's either Elko or the Bama duo. I'm leaning towards Elko at this time
