Think about this though:
If the 2005 offense scored a minimum of 41 points per game:
We beat Clemson (WIN)
We beat SMU (WIN)
We beat Texas State (WIN)
We go to OT with Colorado
We blast Baylor (WIN)
We beat Kansas State (WIN)
We are going to OT with Iowa State
We lose a close one vs. Texas Tech
We beat Oklahoma
We beat Texas
That's anything between 8-3 and 10-1 as opposed to 5-6.

All because Franchione changed the entire offense to a zone read option...and because he's a fat moron.

This Mike Evans appreciation thread seemed to have been thrown off track.
Please, no more 'reminiscing' about my time in Aggieland, (i.e. the Fran years).

Is he the best receiver in A&M history?
Is he the best receiver in the SEC?
Is he the best in the Nation?
Would he be the same without JFF?

Mike is always open. Always. Even when he's not.

Evans is the best in the SEC and IMO the whole nation. The guy is a beast. Hard to believe he's as young as he is. For whatever reason, feels like he should be a senior. JFF certainly helps him, but he'd be a beast with any QB that can get him the ball.
As for the best in A&M history, I'll leave that to true Aggies.

Just for reference, A&M didn't have a 1000 yard receiver until Jeff Fuller in 2010. 116 Seasons. Evans has 1024 in 7 games.

Then I'll go out on a limb and say yes, best all time in A&M history.

The 1,000 yard receiving stat is a little misleading, that used to be very rare.
Evans is clearly the best A&M WR of all time though and it isn't close. Realize that Swope probably was but Evans was better than him last year as a Freshman. He is in that rare category of WR's that it doesn't matter who is covering or what a defense does, he is going to get the ball and make you pay.
The only WR I can think of that compares to him is Calvin Johnson, just a monster that if you get the ball anywhere close to him he will catch it. Johnson is faster but honestly I think Evans is more physical. I think he is so physical in fact he will still be a HR threat in the NFL. Once he has the ball you have to bring him down and even if he doesn't have elite speed he isn't slow. I would not want the job of tackling him in the open field, he makes a lot of really good DB's look really bad.

Mike Evans is 2nd in the country in yards per game.

He is cut from the same cloth as Megatron, Fitzgerald, and Johnson.
I'm not sure how his speed compares to the three NFL pro bowlers, but if it's anywhere close, he will make serious cabbage for a long long time.

Count me in the not elite speed category....but then you watch him race 95 yards against bama and the two long scores against Auburn (not to mention the LA Tech one last year) and you have to wonder if he really does have wheels....

Evans fits the category of a WR that can make a 10 yard catch into a 60 yard TD as opposed to one that will blow by an NFL CB. That's inherently more valuable honestly. Most NFL CB's are sub 4.4 guys but very few are above 6'2/210. That's where a guy like Evans chews them up. He is so physical and has that long stride and good body positioning.
It's a nightmare to defend because a CB can be in perfect position and get burned badly. Make a play for the ball? He can outjump you and out muscle you. Let him catch it and make the tackle? Fine, but you better make sure to hit him low or else he will truck you over. Run him down from behind? Maybe, but if he sees you coming and is ready he will stiffarm you or simply knock you over if you can't get the right angle. He is also still trucking along at probably a 4.5/4.6 speed so this isn't some lumbering TE. Evans hands are unbelievable as well, he very rarely drops a ball and part of that is his hands are HUGE. The football looks like a toy when he carries it. Evans also plays with a big time mean streak and is a smack talker. He towers over most of the guys that cover him and is all tatted up and never smiles. He wins a lot of battles through sheer intimidation.
Raw speed is important for a WR for sure but it isn't everything and it can be easily negated if that is all you have. Jerry Rice was a 4.6 guy and so was Michael Irvin. They knew how to run a route though, they were physical (Irvin more than Rice) and they caught the ball if it was close pretty much every time. The pure speed guys rarely last in the NFL, the playmakers do. Evans is a playmaker. Honestly I think his ceiling is unlimited because he is still learning the game having only played it 4 years, we don't know how good he can be yet.

This is the part of his game that some overlook because he's so soft-spoken off the field. Evans talks more shite when he's playing than Johnny ever does and genuinely enjoys abusing people on defense.
fricking monster
