Has Sumlin done a lot of drugs? Had a stroke?

There is something wrong with the guy. That's not the same dude who was coaching a few years ago. Maybe it's alcohol or drugs as the rumors have said for years. It's something though. He looks like he has aged prematurely somehow and now he just stares off into the distance like he's had a stroke. Was it a stroke? He doesn't talk on the headset, he doesn't yell at players, he just chomps gum and stares blankly. Even UH fans when speaking honestly about his time there say he brought MORE discipline than Briles and seemed, whatever his other faults, to be highly organized and a man with a concrete plan that everyone on the team was fully bought into... does that sound anything like this guy? What in the hell happened to him?

Confession: I went to a fair number of UH games due to family ties. Robertson was a tiny high school stadium, so it was easy to see what was happening on the sideline. Sumlin was pretty active, what I mainly remember is Sumlin getting in players' faces when they came off the field after a penalty or mistake. He was a physical presence.

What I heard from coog fans at the time is that Sumlin let the coordinators be the cool players' coaches while he was more of the disciplinarian players were afraid of. He was also better with reporters, but I guess he was always auditioning for his next gig.

I don't know if he's mellowed with age or gotten fat and comfortable or what.

He is like 53 years old.

I remember they had an assistant when Sumlin first started and it was rumored the guy'd drink a whole handle at the hotel the night before a road game.

He's behind the chains. It's too big for him.

Guys, I've been telling you for over two years now and I can't say it anymore clearly:

HE IS AN ALCOHOLIC

He is seen around BCS drunk at least once a week if not more. He's been sent home from practice before for being hungover. He has a problem.

Weren't you the guy who kept claiming to possess inside information that KS was definitely going to be fired for cause and they were just crossing the t's on the paperwork?

Coming from Roger and no one else? Umm......

I can remember seeing RC around town throwing back beers with his buddies in the late 90's, but never heard the "alcoholic" accusation thrown around. It's childish puritanism to throw around these "damning" accusations in hopes of damaging Sumlin beyond what his professional performance has already done.

You act like this hasn't been discussed numerous times on every Aggie board.

This was known back at UH

I know the rumors started up on Shaggy around December of 2011.

i couldnt care less about his extracurriculars either. lots of coaches are alcoholics from what i hear, as you see in lots of high stress jobs.

I only care because he's a shitty coach. If he was winning 9+ games every year and competing for championships I wouldn't care one bit.

I know he's a shitty coach and should be fired, but I'm sorry for being a little skeptical about things "everyone on the internet knows," or your hot inside information.

Isn't it pretty clear that our higher ups have been split pretty evenly for awhile? I mean sumlin had enough support that buzbee felt the need to publically shame them even after the ucla debacle.

Also, just because you have the info to fire someone for cause doesn't mean it's always worth it because of backlash and tarnishing the universities name as wel. These kinda of things are messy, and if you don't have unanimous support it's unlikely to happen.
