It’s not nothing. If he was he’d already be gone.

It isn't nothing. It just doesn't compare to LSU. BTW, Liucci still thinks we get one of Schloss or Vitello. I guess we will see, and more importantly, just who is LSU going to pursue?

I think they go after McDonnell if they miss on O Sullivan. Knowing Woodward he’s going to go for a big fish and LSU baseball has the pull to get one of those two I think.

I would like to see A&M interview Godwin as well as Vitello. It's well-known I'm not a fan of Schloss. Agree that LSU will go after the best

That means LSU gets one and the other gets a huge raise at their current school.

For what it's worth, the LSU insiders that claimed LSU was approaching O'Sullivan now say that isn't happening, and that the next two targets are Schlossnagle and Godwin. No mention of Vitello on LSU's candidate list, which I found interesting.

I think Woody will get a good hire for LSU. Ags will do the same.

“I don’t know if he would go to A&M,” Rogers said when asked about the Aggies’ vacancy. “On the surface, you go OK, just based on historical precedence, it’s a no-brainer. But I really don’t think it is.
“I think Tony is kind of his own guy. Let’s say (Texas A&M) offers him the job. I would probably put it at 50/50, to be honest with you. And if I’m Tennessee, that’s a win at this point.”
“The question is, would Tony Vitello leave? And I don’t think it’s a given. I don’t think it’s one of those situations where he absolutely would leave Tennessee to go to Texas A&M.
"I think Tony is one of those guys that, if anything, he’s probably more motivated to stay there because people are saying he is definitely going,” Rogers continued. “Tony is a guy that beats his own drum. He’s a single guy, he’s hard-nosed, he has a lot invested in those kids.”
Vitello in 2019 received a contract extension through June 2024, raising his salary to $580,000 in 2020 and reaching $650,000 by the end of the extension. He’s currently making $600,000, with another annual raise set for July 1.
Rogers said A&M, in discussions with Texas Tech coach Tim Tadlock, started talks at $1.35 million annually, before Tadlock ultimately agreed to a contract extension with the Red Raiders.
“So if that’s what they’re willing to start at,” Rogers said, “you have to feel like that they’re willing to get to that point with Tony if he’s the guy for that job. So if I’m Tennessee and I’m Danny, I’m prepared to have to pay the guy over a million dollars. Which I get, they’re not getting 10,000 people to a baseball game. So I get it, that’s a lot of money for a baseball coach.

Basically, A&M is interested. He may or may not accept if offered. If it comes to $ A&M is ready to pay up. Nothing earth shattering. Interesting how much we were willing to pay Tadlock. I think we wait for an answer from Schloss before moving on to Vitello.

I feel pretty good that y'all will get your first choice
Posted on 5/27/21 at 7:59 am to Captain Crown
I don’t. Tadlock was the first choice. If A&M offers that to Schloss not certain he leaves. I’m not convinced we get Vitello either.
It will be interesting to watch. Harder to money-whip baseball coaches. Still, TA is confident and that is rare

Tadlock was probably the first choice or co-first choice.
It's more like our people contact his people. Float a number and agree to talk as soon as his season ends.
I think Schloss is just as highly considered if not more. I think the statement made by Schloss right after RC was fired was because that same thing happened with him.

I don't like Schloss, and I don't have to. However, if the reports are true that LSU is reaching out to him and Godwin I don't like our chances with them. LSU is higher on the ladder than we are.
I'd like to see if Vitello can turn down 1.4M or so ...

Well, they can't hire them both.
And you don't have to like Schloss, but he has the best resume out of any of the realistic options.
Schlossnagle
18 years at TCU (1 COVID canceled year, 1 year still in progress, 9 years Big 12)
5 WS Appearances (3-2, 1-2, 2-2, 2-2, 3-2) – 1 when TCU was in MW
5 Big 12 Titles (3 regular, 2 tourney)
Regional Appearance in 15 of 17 seasons. (Counting 2021; Missed first year in Big 12 & in 19 after 4 straight CWS appearances)
Overall @ TCU: 729-343 (68.0%)
Overall @ TCU once in Big 12: 341-168 (67.0%)
Conference (Big 12 only): 116-74 (61.1%)
2 years at UNLV (02-03)
1 regional appearance.
2 Mountain West Conference Titles (1 regular, 1 tourney)
47-17 (24-6) = 2nd best season in school history

Agree with you Farmer. I just think LSU will make a play for him, and I'd rather lock down candidates before LSU talks to them. I also think Vitello's recruiting prowess is something A&M sorely needs

I haven't researched too many recruit rankings for baseball. I'll have to check it out.

I'm under the impression that schloss is kind of regarded as meh whereas his assistants are all supremely well thought of
Would we be able to bring them with him or would they all just start looking at their own head gigs?

I would guess Saarloos would get a HC job if he really wanted. Maybe even at TCU.
You don't make it this far just because you've had good assistants. How much credit does he get for selecting & developing them?
