Who are even our options for a replacement though?

Brent Venables?

I haven't heard any names, but I would guess they'd throw a large sum of money at Herman and see if he bites. Word out of Philly is Kelly will get the axe of the Eagles don't win the NFC East, so that could be intriguing.

I'd throw everything at Venables before I'd go after Herman or Kelly.
Venables is far more proven as a coordinator at both Oklahoma and Clemson and Kelly doesn't like to recruit.

Here are a couple posts from SmokinAces, who is hens in high regard and has essentially the same info the guy I know has.

You should give him more credit than normal on this one. He is saying the exact same thing I have heard. Sharp is being very open about that he wants and that is Sumlin to be fired.
quote:
Not sure we can fire him with cause, but we have enough dirt to force him to settle. Sumlin is very worried about what we have on him.

Sounds like a pissing match to me instead of sharp trying to do what's best for our school

That might be the worst idea I have ever read.

Lol. I may have said this before, but I heard Herman talk at the uh graduation and he's the real deal. If we could get him I would feel pretty good.

When has John Sharp acted in the school's best interests?

The new stadium is his baby

Just when I didn't think our school could get more negative press, here comes Sharp to prove me wrong!
Seriously, what is wrong with that man?! He needs to tread carefully because last time we hired a white man to lead us, the national media destroyed us for not hiring a black coach. Just the thought of firing a black coach after an 8-4 season will get Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Michael Wilbon, Bomani Jones, Charles Barkley, and Stephen A. Smith salivating at a turn to throw the race card...and this time it would be warranted. Posted on 12/18/15 at 8:57 pm to greenbastard
In the words of Ron White:
"Take her down, I've been drinking since noon and I don't give a shite."

The national media didn't destroy us. Mark May bled all over the airwaves.

quote:That's a lot of if and could and maybe. I'm not pumping Sumlin after what's transpired in the last few weeks, but it's retarded to fire him this late in the cycle without a 100% solid plan in place. Suppose Herman can't be money-whipped and Chip finishes strong in Philly? Now we're up the creek and recruits are bailing and maybe Chavis too.

I say put the wheels in motion for 2016 and let Sumlin try to pull something out of his arse to stop them.

quote:This is pretty much exactly what is going on but it's been going on behind the scenes for 15+ years (probably longer but I can't speak to that). And Roger, I don't think you're FOS. You do generally come across rather naive and idealistic though.

The problem is that our boosters are acting like 2 year olds. You support your guy til the day you don't. That's how it should work.
Instead we have factions constantly trying to undermine behind the scenes. And they've been doing it since day one. I have no strong opinion on the end game here but it's full on amateur hour in Aggieland yet again with Sharp playing the role of lead frickstick.
If Sumlin goes, it's a power vacuum again. If he stays, they've done their best to make it as difficult as possible to succeed.
Anyway, whenever you hear anyone talking about BMA opinions just really there's a 99% likelihood to be another one with the exact opposite opinion

I think the stack of cards that Kyler knocked over analogy from the other day seems so fitting.

This makes sense of a lot of things to me. Do you think that A&M has a higher percentage of non-football people meddling in things that they really don't know anything about than other programs do?

I loathe Sharp, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend. If it takes Sharp to get rid of Sumlin so be it.
The 2008 and 2009 seasons were the result of not firing Fran after 2005. We gave him two more years to destroy the program after it was obvious he wouldn't get it done. I do not want that to happen again.
Sumlin's attitude and approach is lazy and toxic. He's going to burn is badly if we let him. Next season, if he's here, is likely a dumpster fire.

By difficult, you mean "Herman Boone in Remember the Titans" difficult? (The movie not the real coach)

I really dunno. I imagine all big programs have this problem to an extent. I'm not sure how you'd avoid it. We seem to have more dysfunction than most but that's probably because I'm closer to it and see it daily.
