The Rant is obsessed with them.

That's actually 2 D&C's Corps Commanders in a row.

RV's high-ported plenty, thank you very much! In fact once we figured out they couldn't actually kill us, one of my favorite things to do while standing at attention in formation during inspection was to shout "Mr. (close friend)! High-port!", imitating a senior's voice to the best of my ability. And he'd take off running around the quad, being none the wiser about what just happened. He figured it out after a few times and returned the favor. Good times. We were eventually caught, of course. But it was worth it.

Thanks for the info. That's some weird stuff right there. I've no objection at all, I just can't figure it.

Actually, the Commandant outlawed any kind of high-porting (even for Guidon Bearers). I know that there was a logical reason for it from his perspective (health and safety, probably). Anyone caught high-porting, even by choice, can face a conduct hearing.

What is high port?
Running with your weapon (in the case of RVs an M-14 with a lead-filled barrel) raised above your head and held with both arms.
GregoryPeck: Current commandant was an RV in my class. Apparently he didn't enjoy the practice as much as I did.

I heard a rumor from a reliable source that B-Company fish from the class of 1982 were not allowed to know the word "Taco"

See that would be too hard for me.
Heck I hate giving up some food item for lent. Giving up the word to describe it would be torture.

What was the reasoning? Of course the donut experience during our time was legendary.

BG Ramirez '79 had the nickname "taco", therefore...
"Shipley's Glazed Donuts" was an A-Battery thing
"Radiation Box" was a B-Battery thing
"Frat Company" was a B-Company thing
A-Batt and B-Co were just scared of A-Co.

One day while practicing he popped that thing down and ripped a nice slice in my back, ruined my shirt. He was of course mortified. I couldn't really do anything to him because my brethren seniors, including the super-sensitive SafetySam, were all laughing their asses off.
He told me as soon as he did that, You didn't even turn artound, just cocked your head to the side and said "XXXXX, come by and see me."

The RVs highported everywhere while I was in school.
Part of our fish interviews (an amazing hazing event, OMG, what an experience) was you were in a darkened room in your underwear and had to select a cord while trying not to puke from the snuff in your throat. How you got there was another story. There were 2 on the table, a Cav cord and an RV cord. You just grabbed it in response, and the juniors/seniors would take that as your expressing interest in one or the other, and would work to see that you got to join. I grabbed the RV cord, but when selection came around, I made it known to my CO that I didn't give a shite about the RVs and was tired of being hazed, so I think I was one of 2 of my class that didn't either join the Cav or the RVs. I was told if I had wanted it, it was mine, but I don't regret not doing it.

This is a shite image, but this is highporting.
This is from Falcon 16's guidon tryouts a while back. You aren't supposed to lower the guidon down like the weakling on the right.
