So are we melting, fapping, felting, or mapping?

I am outright pumped! Got a text we are looking at Darrell Wyatt as a WR coach!

That would be the homerun hire of the off season! That would maybe get us back in the running with Lodge, and would fill a lot of the recruiting gap Beaty left. Plus he put a lot of guys into the NFL, and has the Boom effect of they still respect him on the 40 acres.

Pretty cool if true.

But can he coach? Recruiting has become overrated with all the underperformance we have had. Ricky Seals-Jones doesn't play like a 5 star. Will he be able to make his WR's play good again?

I think he was one of the best coaches Brown ever had. Sent a bunch of guys to the NFL (not all four stars) and always recruited at the highest level. Their play fell off at the end, but I think a lot of that is QB play fell off first.

I personally can't think of a better hire for the position, I wanted him last go round. Beaty worked like a beauty, but to me this hire would go a long way towards fixing the offense and WR recruiting.

FYI, source is Looch:

According to Muschamp, Auburn was the only school that offered him a job.

Correct. A&M did not offer. And USCe doesn't even have an opening.

If you factor in $1.8 million for him and $1 million for his DB coach, that's a bit much.

One, he only signed for 1.6 million but can up to as much as 2.2 million with raises. Second, his DB coach is still coaching at Florida and Auburn's DB coach is the interim DC for the bowl game.

I don't think it was about money for Muschamp.

Now it may be that Sumlin and the people in charge don't feel a guy like Brent or Foster is worth that kind of money.

Or Muschamp was never our first choice and we are spending all of our time and money trying to get Venables or Foster, we just don't know.

I care about A&M football. If you did, you'd be upset about us ending up with Gibbs aka Kines aka Darnell.

Comparing Gibbs to Kines and Darnell, two guys who were out of coaching when they were hired, is straight up idiotic.

You clearly haven't watched much of Houston the last couple of years b/c they actually had a fairly good defense that kept them in quite a few games they had no business being in due to their abysmal offensive play. He also was the DC for some pretty good defenses at Auburn and Minnesota. He isn't some old retread on his last legs just happy to have a job the way you seem to think.

People are melting because Gibbs comes from Houston and not from a power 5 school so people are assuming that he sucks and that he's our next DC.

No he wasn't or we would have made more of an effort and offered him a contract.

Don't be dense. We made a big effort. We will winning to give him the biggest DC contract in the nation just because we didn't officially offer it doesn't mean the job wasn't his if he wanted it. Sumlin was in contact with him regularly.

I agree, I feel like we got outbid. Which is fine, I mean we were willing to set a new ceiling and even that wasnt enough. At some point you have to consider value. I mean good for Auburn, not being a sore loser but damn. We pay Sumlin a ton, let him recruit a good defensive coach for a little less.

I just hope we are willing to double or more Foster's pay (~500k a year + 800k over a 4 year contract so... 700k).

That's all just semantics.

Technically, you don't have an offer until you have an offer letter in hand, but you don't get an offer letter without both parties verbally agreeing to a salary first. At the point where you are talking salary, the company (or A&M in this case) has already decided they want to hire you and you have expressed interest in taking the job. Most people would consider the point where you are seriously talking salary "an offer". It just may not be an offer you take. In the case that you don't take the salary they offer, then there is no *formal* offer letter, and technically, you can do what Will is doing and claim you never had an "offer".

It was about money. We made Will a good offer but we wouldn't pony up huge cash for his pet assistants. Auburn did. The end.
