Kyler Murray is the second sec qb in 20 years to have this sort of first game success. The other one won a heisman and national championship

In 2 years at Texas A&M
Johnny only put up numbers this good against sec teams TWICE
LET THAT SINK IN

To be fair, he did 350/150 and 250/220, also had that ridiculous 400/98 game against Bama
Still impressive though

Johnny's in a league all his own
But Kyler showed us that he has potential
We should hold off our optimism until after Auburn and Vandy
If he shows up big time for both of those. Maybe we actually have a slight chance against LSU, maybe

Not going to take anything away from the kid, that is impressive to do no matter the opponent. But SC sucks, let's see how he handles the remaining sec teams before we start hyping another quarterback

Can we maybe not crown him king just yet ..... just this once?

Not crowning anyone but Cam is the only other sec qb to do this in 20 years
And he did it against nonsec competition
And was 4 years older
And had already played 3 years of college football

That's implicitly crowning him.
It was South Carolina. they didn't adjust their defense a single time yesterday. It was the easiest scheme to read that even a HS quarterback could have found openings in the coverage / gaps. Kyler did good and threw a tight spiral, but it was not against remotely quality competition.

I don't care if it was the Steel Curtain. You don't compare one data point of an unproven player vs another data point of a phenom. You are 99.99999 percent likely to look like an idiot at the end of the day.
The media does this shite just to stir up people, and worse yet, the fans may even be ignorant enough to believe this line of bullshite.
Let the kid grow, learn, LEAD, and WIN. Then and only then will I even think aobut any comparisons to anyone else. He hasn't lost as a starter, but I needs to learn to LEAD.

Why not compare one data point if the data point is equally impressive and taken at the same juncture in career?

Because one data point suggests that I would have been an NFL HOF caliber linebacker because I wrecked shop one time long ago. Reality points out that I'm your standard fourty something dad in the burbs.
Your head KNOWS that the data point is just that. Your HEART wants to compare against a great in order to prop up your player.
Fandom does dumb things to people. Just enjoy the player for who he is and don't put the player on a pedestal until he creates a body of work worth making said pedestal.

Again, I said it in this thread already, I'm not crowning anyone or calling him Johnny.
BUT the stat is real and not fictional.
