The professor definitely had an agenda in his teachings. I remember in one instance, he claimed female slaves would sometimes provide their own breast milk to white babies (which I'm sure isn't a lie in some cases). But the way he tried to sell it to us was a bit "racial harmony"-ish.
The whole course seemed like a Confederate revisionist's dream (which I'm sure 95% of the Poli board would have loved). The professor was only there for one semester as an "exchange" professor from some podunk southern college iirc. I'm just glad he wasn't a permanent Texas A&M employee and was gone in 4 months.

Reminds me of a prof at A&M I once had who loooooved Jefferson so much that he once said to the class that Jefferson and Sally Hemings was one of the great American love stories.
Yes Mr Prof sir, a slave who had no agency over her life, who he never freed during his lifetime, and whose children from the "affair" had to buy their own freedom, was a wonderful love story.

One ironic thing is that gun control advocates will tell you the 2nd amendment created by the CSA "got it right" and if the US Constitution's 2nd amendment was written exactly like the CSA's, then private gun ownership would now be outlawed in the USA; only militias could possess firearms. Crazy what a couple of commas can do to interpretation.
CSA's Version:
USA's Version:

A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Part of me at the time wanted to speak up and say "Are you sure???" to all that southern "charm". But I was just trying to keep my head down and survive like most other people. I sure as shite wasn't going to challenge the professor and get on his bad side
I don't know what it was about that sememster, but half of my professors weren't employed by Texas A&M at all. The other "exchange" prof was a Chicago looney with a weird Krispy Kreme obsession. That's actually were I met Tbird. The dude made us sing the Chicago Bears fight song for extra credit.
