I'm a PM for a helicopter company. We had to build a building adjacent to our hangar. No problem I thought, I'll work with this construction outfit PM to PM and we'll be on the level. We will understand each other.
Fast forward 12 months later: I now understand the error of my ways. Construction PMs are human garbage.

It's so true I've worked with maybe 20 or 30 different ones at this point and could only stand working with maybe 4 or 5.
Either it's some newbie and I'm basically having to teach him how to do his job while I'm trying to sell him shite, or it's some seasoned veteran who lies so smoothly and effortlessly it blows my mind. Then they'll look at me like it's my fault when shite goes sideways
I quickly learned the value of CYA in communication.

Just got the notice that post is closed again tomorrow due to the snowstorm. I don't remember it ever being this bad. (My wife said it was this bad in 2005)

Usually, yes.
I've made sure to cultivate a more pessimistic outlook in my career. Current company VPs have specifically said in my presence that they ask me how a project is going when they want the real story without the sugar coating. Everything is always "presenting challenges we're working to overcome".
It also puts me in the position where I get to say 'we met or exceeded our plan' more often, which I like doing. It also helps me CYA, which is what I spend 30% of my time doing with our CYA dept (read, Safety & Quality).
